Strikes on oil refineries have become more painful for the Russian war machine than anyone could expect. Gas export is already banned, and years will possibly be needed to restore the damaged facilities. Allegedly, Ukrainian drones continue their strike streak on the oil refining system of the aggressor state!

There are no regular Russian armed forces defending most Russian refineries. The small-arms ground fire heard during some drone attacks is from mercenaries recruited by the ownership of the facilities to secure the grounds from saboteurs. They are not armed to intercept drones. Moreover, current estimates of the percent of total product output of the refineries proffered by social media are vastly overestimated. The entire oil industry infrastructure is interdependent. Disruption of processing at the refineries due to drone attacks, sabotage, destruction of oil storage capacity, damage to pipelines, and rail oil transport have caused catastrophic failure of Russia's relic extraction capacity at the well sites. The results are permanent, as there are no options left to fix the problem. Foreign oil companies that built the oil industry for Russia have long since left. In the last six months, precision missile and drone strikes, plus partizan and SoF sabotage, has severely damaged Russia’s industrial infrastructure and its export-based economy beyond repair. In addition the attacks wrecked Russia’s electric power grid, penetrated its computer firewalls, paralyzed its transportation network, and impeded its long range naval, air, and missile forces. As a result, drone and missile strikes into Ukraine have been reduced to a new lows. By contrast, Russia’s outmaneuvered air defense command has left the skies open to Ukraine’s missiles and drones. As a consequence of these cascading setbacks, Russia’s ownership of oil & gas production and owners of other war-essential industries are up in arms. Their capital investment has been destroyed by Putin’s incompetence, and they are likely more than willing to support any replacement for Putin.

12% might not seem like a big number, but it surely makes a difference. Considering that a substantial amount of refined oil (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, engine oils) goes to the frontline, I see it as a win, and definitely able to do much damage.

Now we have the Americans urging Ukraine to hold back on attacking Russian oil refining sites in case they might have to pay more for energy.Clearly America are losing their bottle for this fight.Do they expect Ukraine to not retaliate to Putin targetting energy infrastrucure in Ukraine.This and their withholding of further funding for arms shows them in a bad light.
