Dr. Berg talks about thirteen things that can increase insulin and insulin resistance.
13 Triggers of Insulin
1. Sugar
2. Refined grains
3. Frequent eating
4. Lean low-fat protein
5. Excess protein
6. Soy oil (GMO)
7. Tran fats (hydrogenated)
8. Cortisol
9. Diuretics
10. Statins
11. MSG (monosodium glutamate) - (modified food starch)
12. Mineral and vitamin deficiencies
-potassium deficiencies
-magnesium deficiencies
-sodium deficiencies
-zinc deficiencies
-chromium deficiencies
-calcium excess
-vitamin B1 deficiencies
-vitamin D deficiencies
-vitamin A deficiencies
Insulin resistance comes from sustained high levels of insulin. Insulin resistance turns into diabetes eventually. When someone has insulin resistance, it is hard to test it because it could be sub-clinical and not show up for 10 years. Your blood sugars could be normal because the body is compensating and adapting.

For anyone stuck in limbo with insulin resistance. It took me about one and half months to see results on the scale. (I noticed changes to my heart skippes first and no water in the legs anymore) I started off with 3day fast, followed by a mix of warrior fast, omad and two meals a day. You shouldn't omad at the same time, switch between dinner and lunch so your body doesnt get used to a specific time(it'll burn less fat). You can eat what you want when you eat, eating less carbs will spike insulin less. I know it's disheartening, but if you keep pushing when you feel lile giving up you'll get there. Edit: just before I started losing weight I did a bikeride to get my food - the store was closed. So I did about 30 Minutes of light city cycling in my 28/29 hour fasted state and had to wait a bit more for my food delivery to arrive. I still lost weight the next day and it's not stopped so far.

Hi Doc Berg. Agree with all except for diuretics. I take 12.5mg of HCT daily and since starting Keto 12 days ago i have lost 7lbs. I am hoping to get off of the HCT but for now will leave well enough alone. Prior to starting Keto I was always hypoglycemic and having to eat every 2 hours to keep from crashing. I was insulin resistant but did not know it. I am not a diabetic but may have been headed that direction. My fasting BS is 81 and my most recent A1C was 4.9. I was suffering with hypoglycemia for 5 years! Since starting Keto I have not been hypoglycemic! Keto really is helping me. Thanks.

Great teacher ❤ I'm glad to finally be learning and understanding better about why and how to eat healthier. I'm actually good at skipping meals but maybe not the best at knowing what foods to prepare for my family to keep everyone satisfied and healthy. Would you please recommend a good Keto app to help keep track of the process for this healthy lifestyle change? Is this way of eating ok for kids too or at what age would you recommend cutting out carbs and sugars?

He said 3 to 6 ounces which is 85 to 170g of protein per day. For insulin resistance, I would have 1 or 2 meals a day since intermittent fasting is incredible for insulin resistance. I would have the first meal and the 2nd 4-6 hours later to allow a long time period for insulin to go down. You should also incorporate around 75g healthy fats and try to limit carbs as much as possible but maybe have veggies and fruits with high fiber but shouldn’t go over 30g of carbs.

Drmalyha ::: Yes, we are primed for insulin resistance from the get-go... the first impact is the diet & pollution all mothers experience while pregnant, which effects us in utero, as well as degrading cell division and the quality of the eggs of females, which are made in the embryo before birth... The next layer of poison is the amount of vaccinations we drown our babies with, all designed to degrade our perfectly healthy offspring, then, the amount of particulates we unwittingly absorb and inhale 24/7 from geo-engineered nano-scale aluminium doesn’t leave us with many choices for optimal health.

+dallimamma You are right. I just heard of chemtrails yesterday. I also learned that first trimester mothers get nauseated and throw up because her body is trying to protect the newly developed fetus from the toxins in her body and the toxins she continuously inhale, drink, eat, and even touch. I think glyphosate in vegetables made me not able to touch them to eat during my pregnancy.

Gosh, I was so ignorant when I was pregnant, I was under the impression that the placenta was a barrier to toxins and pollution, turns out, it’s a super highway!!! The synthetic chemicals we drown in are largely responsible for the proliferation of modern gender bending, which apparently occurs very early in the pregnancy as well, if the mother can’t offer enough testosterone to the male foetus, confusion abounds and multiplies... God help us to release these moronic devils from our world!

I live in Europe. I have diabetes, high blood pressure and overweight. Doctors prescribe statins to lower cholesterol. Now when I know how harmful they are, I don't take them even though he asks me if I take them and I lie to him that I do!!?. This is paranoia but I can't tell the doctor that he is prescribing a harmful drug that is ineffective and still harmful to me! He will take offense and tell me who the doctor is here and let me heal myself when I am smarter than him! Someone tell me why is this happening? I think they are financially profitable by medical concerns and injecting people with drugs from the sale of which these concerns live. Thank you Dr. Berg for all this valuable information.

To much carbohydrates causes toxicity and a unique fat to build at the receptor site. Insulin backs up to a bottle neck and blood sugar rises. Proteins may actually break down the fat at the receptor site and restore the receptor site back to normal. IGF which under normal conditions is your best friend, but like insulin goes from making you healthy and young, to old and unhealthy. So how do we correct that?

Buy a cheap test kit at Walmart. Test blood sugar fasting (AM) and 2 hours after meals. you want the post meal number under 140. AM number should be under 100. An A1C test is even better. You probably are so just work on it.

I wish you would give actual numbers and range on glucose 'vs. Ketones when you speak, especially for the over weight insulin resistant crowd in our 60s.. I'm on month 3 of keto genics and 2.5 weeks of headaches. My hormones are spiking too. But I maintain because I'm a 15 yr cancer survivor and I plan to.maintain that momentum. Love your lectures btw.

I sort of did my own thing but having watched his videos, slid into his recommendations without really buying into it fully. I use the LoseIt app to track all my food intake. Eliminating Alcohol and nearly eliminating sugar is a huge part of it. Four months later, down almost 40 pounds, feel great, skin is better and lots of other improvements. Extra money to have pants altered though. Also I have such a good routine, i dont see how I will go back to the mess I was. Dr. Berg wasn't the only teacher i used, but he deserves quite a bit of credit as his videos are clear and easy to understand.

I believe you left one out. Tapioca starch! I was doing very well until I started eating Kirkland brand protein bars! I was well under 6.0 on my A1C next test, well over 6.0...please talk more about tapioca. A lot of people are having trouble, believe me!
@tamchin933

I would be interested in that too. The label reads "dietary fiber from tapioca starch" and not "tapioca starch" per se as the ingredient... but do we know if there's a difference? Does the dietary fiber from the source act like the source? If Kirkland is listing 15g fiber, but the fiber is really acting like the starch would re insulin... that is important to know.

Dr. Berg, thanks for a the information you are sharing to us through your videos. I am a Type 2 and young male and have an active work and lifestyle. I was wondering about your idea of intermittent fasting. Since I am proactive at work and gym, how can I do intermittent fasting when I start feeling hungry after every hour and half of work?

Dr Berg I have a question: we spike insulin when we do these 13 things, I'm honnestly with you, so what happens to that insulin after? Where does it go? Is it always in our blood stream? Is it hidden or supressed somehow?

I’m so confused by Dr Berg. He says in another video that you should avoid diet sodas since they spike insulin levels and negate ketosis, but he never addresses that meat in all forms increases insulin levels. Wouldnt meat be non-keto friendly since it also increases insulin levels???

Hi, I am a big fan of you dr berg. I am learning a lot from your videos. Just a quick question. I am in BAD HABIT of eating, munching ALL THE TIME. although I am focused on calories, and take 10, 15 small calories. But now I learnt that constant or frequent eating even in low calories, gives you insulin spike. I tried a lot to stop frequent eating but failed. Only one thing helpled me to stop frequent eaiting, and that is sugar free chewing gum. If I keep on chewing gum, I can keep myself away from eating for longer duration. Otherwise I simply cannot. So can I keep on chewing sugar free gum? I hope it will not give much insulin spike. I researched on it but few people says it will give insulin spike, and some people suggest that if it can keep me away from eaiting, I can have it, no issues. Please advise. Thank you

What are glucagon triggers? Can you do a video about that? I'm asking because I wonder if it's simply overconsumption of some nutrients that cause high levels of glucagon which causes a little bit too much gluconeogenesis while fasting.
