It was the prelim. I’m his dad. I thought his best chance at the record was when he was most fresh. On the day of the final I told him just win because he’d be tired by then from the rounds of 200’s and 400’s (we cut the 800 because he has a hamstring tendinitis issue that hurts the longer he runs but won nationals in the 800 last year and it’s typically his better race). He ran a 49.3 in the finals.
