Just 2 days ago I told myself I’d buy it next year but just yesterday I caved in and got the 16” base model 😄. If not for the larger screen I would have just gone for the 14”. The additional 2 CPU and GPU cores won’t translate to linear gains in performance in multithreading. Efficiency drops as cores are added. And the GPU benchmarks proved that. Either way, both are awesome.

I will buy the 14 inch base model, as can't invest more in a computer right now. This will be my first Mac ever, but would love to make that experience even special, by winning a 16 inch macbook pro in any of the giveaways. The base model of 16 inch will be enough for me, as that's already a lot of power🙂, and also the screen size is better, as I don't need much of portability.

I ended up with the 1TB 16" M1 Pro for $2700 and I feel this is where Apple wants people to be due to pricing. Yes $500 more for the 16" seems like a lot, at least at 512GB of storage. When you go up to 1TB of storage though, the 14" is $2500 and the 16" is $2700.....a $200 difference. So it was a no brainer to get the 16" with the faster CPU/GPU, larger screen, better audio, bigger battery, and faster charger.

Both of these laptop handled all those task easily with lag nor issues. During my free time I did photo editing work as a hobby and the 14" will handle all my professional work and photo work with ease. The $500 you save put it towards a 1tb SSD external drive, 3yrs apple care+ warranty, and a Anker portable battery for the laptop. After testing both system for a month I ended up returning the 16" MacBook. The 14" will be more than enough for casual use and professional work.

@@x12flare73 Yep. I do a lot of photoshop work and Capture One (both programs that SCREAM for screen real estate). I was worried that the 14" wouldn't have enough resolution as the 13" (forget even just processing power) didn't have a high enough resolution to allow for PS and Capture to really work without opening and closing panels all the time. Not only on the new 14" do you get a larger resolution screen but the menu bar for programs sit at the top between the notch (which truthfully can hardly be seen - unless you are looking for it. @@CreatedTech I would agree if it was solely for entertainment. But if its for work it will more than make up for its cost in the long run specially with the better battery(4 hours claimed), screen size(2 inches), more efficient cooling and faster charger, 2 extra cpu and 2 gpu cores. Pixels per inch remains the same with the increased screen size which means higher resolution. In more demanding games my 16"s fans also gets noticable, the 14" already "loud". Im so lucky i didnt get to the 14" for the sake of investing the 200$ into a 1TB SSD upgrade. The thermals under load, the bigger battery, screen etc are enough reasons to go for the 16" if mobility/weight isnt very crucial Only as a standalone device/Mini iMac the 16" is so much more capable because of the bigger screen, in fact sometimes i even wish back the good old 17" MacBook Pro time!

Or you could just compare them with identical specs. There's a $200 price difference between the 14" and the 16" with identical specs. It's not a lot of money So it really depends on what size screen you want and how much weight you want to carry around. I ordered the 14" because I've found from experience that anything larger than 15 inches in a laptop is too large and heavy for me long-term. Also, the 16" has the high power mode available with the Max processor, but from the testing videos I've seen so far it really doesn't give much of a performance boost. I purchased mine with 32GB of memory because I want it to last for several years and I believe that more memory is better for some applications that I use regularly. I also spent the additional $200 for the Max processor with 24 core GPU, mainly for the increased memory bandwidth. My purchase came to 3,100 but my old Macbook Pro was from 2015 and I expect this one to last another 5 to 6 years.

Yet the title (and topic) of this video is "base model vs base model", not "equivalently specced 14 vs 16". And $200 is a lot of money for someone on a budget or a corporate employer looking to outfit an entire office or team with this gear. Just because you think it's not much, doesn't mean that's the norm.

Someone said to me that to save battery life, the first time we buy a device we must charge the battery up to 100% and then start using. Is that true?
@Redheadtama13 жыл бұрын
Lithium-ion batteries used in computing devices generally like to hover around the 70-80% mark to maximise battery life. These days, Apple's software actually does a great job of managing this for you. For example, when you charge an iPhone at night, it will slow down it's charging rate to keep the charge at about 80% and then only charge the remaining 20% just before you wake up. Overall though, the most useful advice is to keep your devices charged up as much as you can. If you leave a Macbook plugged in 24/7 the battery will be fine and will not use any cycles. The worst thing you can do is let a battery drain to 0%, then charge to 100%, then let it drain to 0% again etc.

I am currenty on a windows laptop with a i5 11400h and rtx 3050 gpu. Will the M1 Pro be a an upgrade/downgrade? I only use Davinci Resolve and Capcut for it.

Would there be any difference in editing videos that are over an hour or so long? I ask, as there is an additional ProRes encoder from what I read, but I don’t know if that will help with lengthier videos.

Hi, If such encoder/decoder exists for the format being used it will always use those over the cores (If they're supported in the software as they're typically significantly faster at processing that standard cores.) So I would assume based of that regardless of length it would always use the encoders/decoders meaning if you're primarily Video editing in 4k then there would be no noticeable difference.

It comes down to the screen size and that's the only reason I went with the 16"

Hoping to get a 14 base model for enough power horse and still have portability of small form factor!
