The display is insane and is basically 4k, just a different aspect ratio. The new keyboard, ports, battery life, speakers, MagSafe being back, and track pad are amazing. Easily the best laptop I've ever owned and my first Mac since 2013.

I absolutely love the idea of the 14-inch MacBook Pro - that kind of power in such a portable device. However, I ended up exchanging it for the 16-inch, just based on the fact I don't use a monitor, and my eyes thank me for the bigger screen haha. Also, I appreciate the better battery and cooling.

I totally agree with the recommendation. I went for the 16" because of the screen and I am not traveling as much anymore. Over the past month that I owned it (my, oh my how time flies) I have used it every day for writing and other stuff I do for my own company. The fans have not come on and the only time it gets slightly warmer is when I compile some apps. We still need to see further adoption of the new chips for the "obscure" applications, over time that will either mean I have to switch some applications or have to purchase new licenses.

How do you use it with the track pad literally taking up the entire wrist rest? I need the big screen but can't reach the keys without my wrists screwing up the mouse. I'm baffled by this design flaw. The guy at the Apple store said the same thing happened to him and he returned his for the 14 inch. I read about some people taping over the sides of the track pad, but I assume that will affect usability, and for an item this expensive, having a taped workspace is a no go.. How are people using the 16 inch?

I bought a base 14” MBP secondhand. Got it with a decent discount and it was practically brand new. It’s my first MacBook ever, so I wanted something solid (hence choosing this over an Air, since the MBP has a superior screen, superior speakers, and superior performance than a base Air) but I also didn’t want to go all out with a fully decked out system. I love the laptop, best laptop I’ve ever owned personally! I think at some point I’ll definitely be willing to get a much beefier Mac now that I have a bit more experience using one (I’ve been using Windows my whole life), but I won’t make that upgrade for at least another couple of years. Pretty happy with the base 14” MBP for now. Maybe I’ll finally upgrade when the M3 Pro MacBook Pro comes out in 2025 or whenever haha!

The base model of 14" is probably the best one to get (best with SSD upgraded), any upgrade on cpu or gpu will lead to heat and performance reduction issue, which makes the upgraded version works not much better than base model. If any performance upgraded are needed, then the base model of 16 is like way way more better than 14. The 16" solved many problem like battery, heat, small pad space(when you editing videos, you will use left hand over keybord for shortcut and other tasks a lot while right hand stay on the pad, both hands often fight for space with smaller mouse pad) etc, and even some system conflicts appears in 14 does not appear in the same model of 16. I used 14 for 4 month for video editing, vfx, photo editing 90% of time, and decided to buy another 16 to solve all of my problem, the 14 is really good if you just use the base model for normal video editing without too much time line stacks, or not too much color /effects( like noise reduction, grain film effect etc). If you using davinci resolve for film color adjustment and effect a lot, then 16" is highly recommanded.
@benjiman8182 жыл бұрын
So you're saying the 14in doesn't have the same performance with the same configuration on the 16in?
@hellozzh2 жыл бұрын
@@benjiman818 yes, personally I tested it out with 16 and 14 max, big different, you can also check many youtuber, they got the same result, 14 inch simply can not handle the full power or max chip because the heat problem, ao they will have to reduce its performance to make sure the heat doesn't burn your laptop when working hard. 16 inch is way better option if you are going to use 80% performance or more of that laptop. And it's not only the problem of max, the pro version also suffer from the same issue. So for anyone interested in 14inch, I would recommand only the lowest spec m1 chip but with 16g memory and more ssd space if it's not gonna to hurt the bank, the lowest spec is more than enough for 95% user.

I’m having a bit of buyers remorse after just getting my 14” after a few days. Agree with everything positive you’ve mentioned, but the base model with 512gb of storage is my main problem. My MBP 15” 2015 has been great, I’m going to miss it in many ways, showing it’s age in some ways, but it had a 1TB SSD and that is hard to adjust to being half that on the 14” I have. Thought the very fast TB external 1TB I got would be an OK compromise, but any moving with that attached is just not as convenient as the internal storage even if it gives you more space and is cheaper than the APPLE built option.
