When you have a sound as great as CCR (or AC/DC, or the Ramones, or Motorhead), why vary? They've hit upon the perfect thing, just build more and more songs with that sound. A lot of the bands that try to vary things a lot just end up having more songs that I don't like and have to skip. I never have to skip a song on a CCR, AC/DC, Ramones, or Motorhead album. I'm in my 50s now and I listened to some 1970s Kiss albums recently. My expectations were low, probably a case of being brainwashed into thinking they'd be terrible, but musically I don't see what the strong feelings are about either way. I didn't love them or hate them. I'd say I like it, to a degree. The hate they get seems like overly forced snobbery, just pissing on something crass and popular for the sake of signaling your "superior" taste. Upbeat music is always seen as shallow compared to depressing music. That's why The Velvet Underground will always be cooler than Kiss despite the fact that The Velvet Underground wrote mostly objectively bad music. Ace Frehley I will say is very underrated as a guitarist, and he was doing tapping before EVH. I play guitar and looking at some Kiss tabs they're harder to play than some might realize. A lot of Beatles and Led Zeppelin riffs are simpler than an average Kiss riff. Guitar players tend to like Kiss. Okay that's the good points, the bad points are that none of them can sing well and the lyrics are typical cock rock cliches. After 1977 they're mostly meh. And Gene Simmons is a douche, but that shouldn't make you judge the music.
@guywoznicki78476 ай бұрын

When I seen the title here I was intrigued because I too have zero love for a few bands and wanted to see if we had some common ground as far as that goes. And we do actually. But there’s are a few here that I might take issue with. First one being Foo Fighters. Jesus I just don’t get why people hate on Dave Grohl so much The guy is an obvious talent He was part of one the most influential bands of all time in Nirvana then after the tragic loss of his band mate he drug himself out of his grief and wrote one of the coolest debut albums of all time! Then he became a huge success with the FF! Just about everyone in RnR loves to work with this guy God he’s a killer song writer My wife and I were just talking about how great of a guy he is and how he does a lot of charitable deeds. I think people tend to hate on the success of the artist rather than the art itself. I just cannot get on board with throwing hate GNR either I remember when that debut album came out it blew my mind! There wasn’t a song on that album I didn’t know by heart as I spun it so much. Sure they wavered and Axl was a c*ck but it’s like you said about Creed How could 50 million people be so wrong? Onto my final band that I can’t agree with you on and that’s CCR! Jesus I about spewed my morning coffee across the room when you said Creedence LoL! I didn’t expect them to make your list Absolute legends! Such a unique sound In fact I’d say they created a genre Swamp Rock! Sure Fogherty is a dick but I just can’t argue with the great songs and the success! I would maybe argue the Eagles as well as they seem to be a fun band to dump on since a fictional character The Big Lebowski mentioned he hated them in a movie once Geez then everyone hated them! Epstein was a keen business man, and he did a lot of great things for the Beatles, but he didn't know a lot about the music industry and had zero experience managing a band, so he made some crucial mistakes. However, we probably never would have heard of the Beatles without him.

I agree with 90% of your choices and agree with your comments on Kiss and Radiohead. I love both bands. Radiohead have some masterpiece albums. As far as your list goes I really enjoy the Eagles especially their first 4 albums. It’s just such chill southern Sou ding music and there are some great tunes on Desperado. I do enjoy both Hotel California and Long Run albums too with Mr.Walsh who adds some edge. I find Def Leppard’s first 3 albums great too. Some solid rock songs on there and great catchy melodies. CCR get some respect from me too,but I am not the biggest fan of theirs. Wondering if you like Little Feat? They are such a secret treasure. So many awesome albums and Lowell was a great player. They seem to always sneak under the radar. Great episode. Cheers from 🇨🇦🇨🇦

I honestly really do respect that you're open about how it's okay for people to like different music than you and that hating a band is a personal thing, we've all been on the receiving end of someone trashing stuff we like and it doesn't feel great, but there is still a space for expressing what you don't like so long as you don't get a big head about it. To my understanding the problem with Creed is and has always been Scott Stapp - as evidenced by the fact the rest of the band stayed together when he left, got a new singer, changed their name to Alter Bridge, and put out Blackbird as their second album, what a great record that is. Most of your list I don't really have particularly strong feelings about one way or another, a few I suppose rise to the level of what I call "Aggressive Indifference" aside from a couple good songs (the Eagles have Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, maybe Take it Easy and a couple others I can't remember, but I can absolutely leave the rest). As for what music I "hate", I agree that it's a pretty strong word, and one I'm more likely to apply to individual songs rather than artists as a whole. There are artists I don't really get the appeal of aside from maybe a few songs (a lot of pop punk bands fit that for me, it was huge in the mid-00's right when I was a teenager and in the right time to get into it, but I never really did aside from a few songs later on), artists I like just fine but not nearly as much as their reputations suggest I should (in prog spaces, I'd say Genesis and Transatlantic fit that, but I'm still open to them growing on me)... But as for artists that just annoy me, I can really only think of a handful. I'm generally not into country (with some exceptions), despite being from West Virginia where it seemed most people were, and I could probably pick on a few country singers, but I'll stick to my (former) home state and say Brad Paisley is the one I "hate", if you think that saying "I'd like to check you for ticks" is a good flirt you need some help. Kid Rock has always been a bit of a hack to me, even before his recent turn to baiting controversy for attention he always just took other people's songs and made them more obnoxious, and I'll never forgive him for how many times I've had to hear All Summer Long, one of the most annoying songs ever recorded. And my equivalent to your putting CCR at the top that will get everyone mad at me is that I have a personal vendetta against Frank Sinatra, I don't get what people like about him. I hate his voice, I hate his personality, I hate most of the songs he did, and when I like one of the songs generally (like Fly Me to the Moon) I hate his recording of it. I dunno, man, he just rubs me every wrong way.

Damn, between Pete Pardo's #1 most hated band being Counting Crows and now this #1 being Creedence Clearwater Revival, I'm starting to think the prog community hates me personally. If the next prog channel with a hate list has the Beach Boys as #1 (or if that video already exists), I'll know for sure. Beyond that, I don't have too much to say about the list. I've owned most of the Foo Fighter albums at one point or another, but I've only ever found a handful of songs on each album interesting, but the ones that grip me grip me hard (All My Life, Stacked Actors, Everlong, I'll Stick Around, The Pretender). As for ones I would have on my own list, barring pop stars like Taylor Swift, I would say Buckcherry (to be fair, they have a couple of songs that are guilty pleasures for me--it's a bit audacious, to say the least, to make a hook out of "I love the cocaine, I love the cocaine"--but most of their songs are just kind of boring), U2 (I love the hell out of War and a few random songs along the way, but they've just never gripped me), and, as my controversial choice, The Doors. I'm not saying they're a terrible band or anything that contrarian, but The Doors just don't move me all that much, especially the way Jim Morrison laconically sings on most of the songs; I've listened to the two disc greatest hits, and there are times when he isn't singing like a drunk lounge singer that's too cool to try anymore, and those are the moments I like best, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather listen to Julie Driscoll/Brian Auger's cover of Light My Fire or just about anything by Them (at least when Van Morrison was fronting the band) or The Animals.

Status Quo...every number sounds the same...but they're decent chaps. Led Zeppelin...total bunch of bastards...took tracks by Muddy Waters and other black American bluesmen then credited themselves as the writers so when their LPs sold millions, they pilfered the proceeds and denied royalties to the black men whose music they stole...and Plant's a rotten singer...and Page is vastly over-rated...and Bonham's just a thumper...Jones is the only one with any smidgen of talent. Pink Floyd...another bunch of bastards...Another Brick In The Wall they sing, from their luxurious tax haven in the south of France...and Waters the Jew hater is just the icing on the cake. The Clash...sorry Scot, I know you like them but really, I cannot tolerate that bunch...and as for that Sandinista rubbish...releasing an LP in defence of terrorists and murderers...ugh! There. That's soon said. There are plenty of other bands whose music I don't like but I can tolerate them because they have something to say or because there are usually a few decent pieces that are good etc. All right then...now I'll go and crouch in my corner and grumble sourly in the dark.

Glad to see Korn getting love. That was the band that introduced most of us to 7 strings and made me want to become a musician. People forget that EVERYBODY was trying to copy them in the late 90s and early 2000s. Yet for some reason, so many noses get turned up against them. That whole period for rock music would've looked really bleak if it weren't for Korn, because all the grunge guys fell off around '96/97 and what was left was goofy, derivative shit like Days of the New trying to ape the last of a dead genre. Korn came in and made rock exiting again, very similar to what Motley Crue and Metallica did for the 80s--they totally wiped the slate CLEAN. And Kiss too....another band that wiped the slate clean for their era. Plus, they're story and lore is one of the most fascinating; I can spend hours going through Kiss footage and interviews every day. That band is an obsession. People can talk all the shit they want about Gene and Paul, but they are two of the most fascinating people on the planet.

That was fun to hear a take on Guns and Roses that I share. I do remember their distinctiveness when they hit, before they were mega popular. I'm sure it was clearer to someone seeing them on the strip in the mid 80s. I think one palatable contribution from them this is image/cultural: They kind of pulled the mainstream rock bands away from the big hair and multi color spandex thing. By the end of the 80s, the Poisony bands were starting to do more blue jeans and normal hair. So it wasn't the Nirvana record necessarily that killed the glam sort of look in mainstream.. they killed what was left, the half-way biker look.

I think some people hate some bands because we went to school with a-holes who loved certain bands and taunted us for the bands we loved and never forgot them for it…even though we would grow to like those bands and even meet some of the musicians in the bands we once hated, and would get to tell them the bullying story. A lot of these rock stars were bullied too so they were usually compassionate and apologetic when hearing our stories.
