Thank you so much for making this! As you said at the beginning, not everyone gets the privilege of learning cooking from their parents. As a child, I was prohibited from being in the kitchen while cooking was happening and was fed the same 5 or so plates because my mom really hated cooking. I grew up without knowing what food should taste like, how it looks uncooked, how to prepare or cook anything. I remember the first time I cooked for myself, I had to look up everything. How to slice an apple, how to boil water, how to use a rice cooker, steam vegetables and so on. Being a vegan has made me love food, and although it has been an extremely challenging journey, your videos and other vegans on KZbin has made the kitchen a better place to be. So thank you again!

Another tip for how to make it easier to juice lemons and limes it to simply just put it on your countertop and roll them with your hand while putting on some pressure. This make the little pulp sections break so when you cut it open it'll be super easy to press out the juice.

Thank you so, so much for this. I've always hated cooking and I never learned how. It is like Greek to me and when people say "it's easy! Just sautee your onion and garlic in with...etc" my brain turns off because I don't even know how to chop or prepare the basics. I need things broken down into basic steps so that I can learn, and I have had trouble getting others to understand that because cooking comes so naturally to them. I am a science person so the exact measurements of baking have always been easier for me. I see cooking as more of an art. Anyway, all that to say, I'm late to the cooking world here in my 30's, but I need to learn because I'm transitioning from vegetarian to vegan. This video was perfect!! Seriously, the first time anyone has broken it down so that I can really grasp some basics of cooking. Would love more videos like these.

Adelicia Graham one great tip I learned really late is how to chop onions the correct way. Peel the onion, cut away the "dirty" part of the root but not too much. Then half the onion cutting through the root (important!). Put an onion half cut-side down, root end to the left (if your holding the knife in your right). Now comes the trick: cut slits in your onion from left to right but don't cut fully through it, leave the root end intact. Then turn your knife 90° and cube your onion from right to left (at an right angle to the slits). This is like 100x easier and faster.

I loved this! Please do more. Also, would love for you to do one on basics - how to chop veggies (broccoli, chilis, garlic, etc.,) how you prep ingredients from start to finish (do you do as you go, or get everything chopped and prepared before you start?), how you store your greens so they last, kind of cookware, kettle, and knives you use). This is the best channel!

tofu drying tip: for crispier fried tofu, press the moisture out first, you can do it over-night by wrapping it in paper towel and putting something heavy on it. But if you forget or don't have the time, wrap it in paper towel and put it between two plates, put it in the microwave for about 3 minutes and the water will evaporate out of it, not as dry as the overnight method but still works pretty well. Watch out when you take it out of the microwave, it'll be really hot

You done right with the rice cooking, we asian also do that even in the rice cooker. But for Garlic and Onion, I always put garlic first and Onion later. my garlic not burn as onion always have more moisture to prevent garlic to burn but that is just what I think though lol. Also I've never taste the bitter from garlic, it only occur when you really burn your garlic. By the word burning is when it turn black (which we never get into that state)

You can also cook the potato in the microwave completely. It takes around 8 minutes, depending on the size. Sometimes I'd wrap a wet paper towel around it so the potato skin doesn't get too hard and have in in the microwave 4-5 minutes each side. :)

Another way to cook the rice is to use two cups of water, allow it to start boiling then add some olive oil, a pinch salt and one cup of rice. When the rice was absorbed the water it will create small holes and that's how you know it's cooked all the way! The proportion between water and rice is 2:1 (2x water per every 1x of rice)

fast way of making cous cous that's perfect every time: Pour it into a bowl or tupperware box and put some olive oil, salt and pepper on top. Boil water in the kettle and pour it in the bowl/box to just above the level of the cous cous and stir it just to combine the ingredients, immediately after put some cling film or the box lid on top and leave it for 10 mins. Break it up and it'll be perfect, no need for cooking on the hob

I use them to stir fry, in my pasta or even just in my salads to go..I let it melt slowly ;) I am a new subscriber by the way and I really love the way you create and edit your videos.
