The first time I ever skated (before I got fat) was back in early high school, I originally thought it was just an easier way to get around. I learned ollies and shove its but that was really about it. I used a Walmart board during that time. Then during my junior year I got a part time job and had more money so I went to Zumies and bought like the best board they could build (circa 2008) cost me about 245$ out the door. I basically had to relearn how to ride because the newer board rolled smoother and I didn't have to pump as hard as I used to. The first time I rode it after I got home I pumped so hard I faceplanted and all my friends laughed at me, but I eventually got used to it. I even learned how to 50/50 and boardslide on it so I was pumped. I havent ridden a board in about 10 years now but I'd love to get back into it. There used to be this church where I grew up and on the backside of the parking lot was this concrete ditch we used to use as a half pipe. Those were the days hanging out there with all the kids from the block. No drama, no worrying about getting kidnapped or killed. No stress. It was paradise.

I think a better way to test this would be to get a beginer to try them both and see if the expensive board is easier for him because if you're good any board will be good enough
@KapnHook7 жыл бұрын
I think it just goes to show that you can do anything they can do on a cheap board if you really wanted to. If they can, you can.
@moistschmeckles4007 жыл бұрын
Treble Hook You actually can't, as a beginner, I have witnessed both the expensive and the cheap versions, and must say that the expensive one gives more pop, rolls better, has a much better griptape and also chips a lot harder
@KapnHook7 жыл бұрын
Alex Rotaru Well no shit. But if they can do a tre flip or something on a Walmart board, then anyone can if they try hard enough.
@mouija14507 жыл бұрын
I think the real question is whether you'd like a set-up that is responsive enough to land tre-flips every time, or would you prefer to fight the odds and land one with a 10% success ratio? As a decent skater, it's fun to try and land hard tricks on a terrible board, but it's definitely not as fun when you're trying to learn a trick. A shit board might be fun for guys that have identified as "skateboarders" for years or decades, but kids starting out that don't have a frame of reference might just give up because even a brand new walmart board can't roll for shit and feels like a sponge log. If I were 12 years old again finding myself loving to skate as a serious passion, I want a real board that can roll and feels responsive. That's not to say you can't have fun on a walmart board, but I feel the disadvantages of the sludgy, soggy feel are very discouraging to impressionable kids that are aware of high level skateboarding from basic cable and possibly even their Dad.

This is coming from someone coming back to skateboarding after an almost 12 year hiatus (and who was never "good" by any definition before that), so I might as well be a beginner: repeat that again-- If you're learning, buy a complete at [your local] skate shop. If you're learning, buy a complete at your local skate shop. *If you're learning, buy a complete at your local skate shop.* Plus, if you think you might end up making a long-term hobby of skating, you should get to know the people that work at your local skate shop anyway. They're usually some of the chillest people you'll ever meet in "retail," and they'll know everything you need to know about buying a board.

zawzero given that germany is technologically more progressive than the US I'd say not many people who are not German would have thought. What a useless comment of yours!
@zawzero8 жыл бұрын
Fraxton Are you slow? This shit is made in the US, then it has to be shipped, customs and 19% taxes and the importers and retailers want to have their fair share too. Anyone with at least a bit of logic in his head would have thought.
@0tiii8 жыл бұрын
zawzero Are you slow? I'm talking about domestically produced paraphernalia?!
@zawzero8 жыл бұрын
Fraxton So you want to to on the one hand say that Germany is SOOOO technologically advanced, on the other hand you think people wonder why it is so expensive. Could it be connected to the fact that Germany is so technologically progessive that you cannot produce things cheaply? The taxes are 19% VAT, on everything, aswell as you have no low-skill workers for 5$ per hour.

the custom pc im on now cost about 800 euros, but I can do with this for another 2-3 years. real dedicated skaters go through a deck in about a month, and a good deck (just the deck) is about $50 to $100. It adds up. Then again, nothing beats going outside and skating around.
