My family begged and begged my ex sister in law to leave her boyfriend for the sake of our nephew and her other two kids. She tried getting a restraining order, cops said their hands were tied because he hadn't done anything yet despite him making threats and stalking her. He had previously beat the crap out of her in front of her kids but he went into hiding and no one was giving him up. She got let go from a job because of his stalking her when she was on the clock. One night she went out to go get medicine for nephew because he was sick and he was waiting outside with a gun. She only made it a few houses down when he caused her to crash. He shot her as her kids watched from the window (they had heard the commotion and looked out the window). The coward then turned the gun on himself. Now my parents are raising my nephew and his siblings have gone to their dads. It's just so sad....prayers to the family. No parent should ever have to bury their child and no child should ever have to bury their parents at such a young age.

As a parent, it’s your JOB to know who your kids are hanging out with, communicating with. You need to have 100% access to their cell phones and just say NO to social media. Know where your kids are going to when they leave the house. There’s no reason for them walking aimlessly around the streets, etc. And for heaven sakes, keep them busy with sports, after school clubs, anything that helps them engage with other people and/or learn things. Idle hands get you in big trouble.

I was in a similar relationship. Met him when I was 15 and he was 25. My mother did try everything to keep us apart. He was arrested twice but I didnt want to press charges. I ran away with him a few times. My mother didnt want to lose me so she gave up. I got pregnant at 17 and at 19 my mother sent me and my son abroad to get out of the relationship but by then I was so controlled that I paid for him to join me. I left him when I was 25, When I finally realised it was abusive and he is a narcissist. I have no idea if or what the parents did to help but I know from experience it is very hard from a parents perspective.

Well, when I did, I always told my parents I was at a friend's house. It is relatively easy to do unless your parents are going to phone the friend's parents to check that you're there. Sadly this is something parents should probably be doing, or agree that the friend's parents will phone when you get there and when you leave.
