Does Moshe dye his hair? I’m guessing yes because of his age and the jet blackness of his head
@emilydistefano18502 жыл бұрын
So...sorry for the long comment but...re: the second caller’s question, the issue of division of labour is not just about the division of chores, i.e. one person does this task, other person does this task. It’s also about: a) dividing/sharing the forethought, the planning, the time management, the communication, and all the other executive skills that go into managing a household and a family unit; b) recognizing that those skills are necessary and valuable and keep things running smoothly; and c) acknowledging that shouldering the responsibility for those skills takes a real mental toll on anyone who is doing more than their fair share, especially when that person feels like their partner takes the labour involved for granted. And saying that the solution is to delegate more is not necessarily super helpful because the act of delegation is also a task in and of itself. I think all of this is why Moshe’s advice for the wives in the conversation to stop thinking about chores every now and then just isn’t landing. Sure, laundry does not need to be done right away. But laundry isn’t about laundry. It’s about making sure you have enough towels, or making sure your kids have clean uniforms to wear to school or soccer practice, or making sure your favourite outfit is ready for date night. The world isn’t going to end if the dishes don’t get washed in the evening, but your morning will be more stressful and you may develop an ant infestation. In the caller’s case, I guess fathers don’t absolutely have to be caregivers for their children, or buy them clothes, but…someone has to? So basically, if you want a person to feel secure enough in your family system to stop worrying about chores, then you need to be willing to try to at least understand and, ideally, share the mental load attached to those chores, in addition to, you know, doing your share of the chores. And as a person who lives in her own personal hurricane most of the time, I fully understand that everyone has their own way of conceptualizing mess/chores and their own personal preference for organizing their lives. But if partners don’t recognize each other’s needs and wants in this arena, or try to understand the reasons/value systems that underpin those needs and wants, or respect all the forms of labour that go into trying to run a home in a way that fulfills those needs and wants, then conflict and resentment both seem inevitable.

Exactly!!! I think we are approaching a time when men will have to own up to the lack of domestic work equality and change. We are in that time. That's why they get defensive. Keep pushing them, women. Do not raise children in a household where they see the woman doing the majority of domestic work (without a fight). It's not OK and it has to change.

This episode is such a testament to how powerful semantics can be when communicating thoughts & needs in relationships. Positive and/or negative connotations associated with our choice of words can determine what kind of outcome one is intending & can also work as a tool in revealing what the sincere motivations are from the onset of any discussion. Positive reinforcement always results as a healthier indicator of what someone is attempting to achieve whereas using negative such as won't, can't, aren't always read as criticism with an aim for conflict. If you're sure an argument will be the end result of a conversation, all you're left with as an alternative is to change your approach or it borders as emotional sadism. Words matter.

Is there producer also secretly their therapist and this podcast is one big couples therapy experiment? Because a lot of calls are pointedly to open direct discussion with audience feedback into their own marital troubles. And I freaking love it. Unfortunately my relationship is flipped, I’m the messy wife and my husband is the neat freak, we have division of labor arguments all the time. I don’t see mess as he does so my advice as the messy one to him is to utilize his strength in giving out directives and my enjoyment of spending time with him so he says “hey babe can you help unload the dishes while I wipe off the counters?” Or “can you help fold the laundry after I wash them?” Also, not everyone can afford it but like a once a month housekeeper to do some of the deep cleaning might make lives a bit easier. I’m also practicing mindfulness, when I take something out to put it back in it’s place.

Also Moshe is 💯💯💯 about women/moms/etc creating and making time for themselves and there is opportunity in taking a page out of the other partners book, who can more easily do it! The problem is if your o her partner doesn’t encourage or support you in taking that time. Moshe totally encourages Tash to do this, now it’s on Tash to take him up on that for herself! But there are definitely dudes out here that so NOT support like that and THAT needs to be addressed as well, so yeah folks be real about which one you are in the relationship and make the changes you gotta make

Moshe’s point is dead on. Women tend to deny themselves a break and then project frustration at the male partner.
@brennam9542 жыл бұрын
Women "deny" themselves the break because they know shit won't get picked up by the men. The world won't immediately end if the dishes don't get done. But they sit there, taking up room in the sink, and you're unable to cook or eat anything further because of the used dishes, and that ultimately affects everyone. And one partner (usually the woman) is the only one who cleans them regularly (and they have reminded the other partner constantly to take care of them), they either don't get done and cause more stress and work later (for the woman), or that same partner has to constantly do them because the other partner won't pick up their slack. Women shouldn't have to be in the position of constantly "nagging" men for help. For example, in Moshe's case, he says he does handyman work around the house; but is that literally an everday thing, like cleaning/laundry/child rearing is (things that tend to fall more to women)? I don't know their full arrangement, but I've just hard versions of this conversation so many times. While I think women need to demand their own time, that can only comfortably happen when men choose to support their partner in a proper way. 70% of all divorces is the country are INITIATED by women; and there is a reason for that. They feel unsupported in their marriages.
@Slaveternal2 жыл бұрын
@@brennam954 (At risk of sounding like a Male Rights Activist or something) Post divorce, those guys probably keep half as clean a place and spend that time on more enriching, joy filled pursuits. Many people have zero interests or hobbies, and unfortunately cleaning, order and an endless list of made up (non)responsibilities fills the void. Then projects a perceived lack of participation on to the partner. We've all seen it. If you're getting divorced over cleaning arguments the relationship isn't based on much. Where I think many people find themselves because many relationships are driven primarily by a sense of dependency /discomfort being alone.
