Gosh that's horrific. You are right there is no excuse for harming children. I have a few friends who suffered abuse as children and they are such lovely, kind people who would never hurt anyone. My husband works in a secure unit with offenders who have all committed rape and/or murder and half of them have abused kids. Most of these inmates have been abused as kids themselves in some way but I still personally think it's no excuse I have no sympathy.

@@susanhughan2198 In psychology 101 you learn about nature vs nurture. It's been coming out that psychopathy might be something that is born not formed in life. However, people can be "psychopathic" due to circumstances in life. Some can be abused like this and never harm another human being to then get therapy and become somewhat normal. Others, most cases actually, mimic the abuse that was done on them. They dont need to be born a psychopath to do this. This is what the psychologist is talking about in this video. She probably wasn't born this way but formed into this monster.

Terri Lynn had a brutal childhood....so do plenty of people. Nothing can justify or even explain why she went along with, encouraged and bore witness to what happened to Tori...shes as bad, if not worse. How can you be kind to a frightened little girl and then watch her being raped and then....killing her. Life. No parole. Not ever.

@@leedevitt4528 Plenty of things can explain why. Justify? You are correct there are no justifications unless you deal with true and real insanity of the mind. But explanations do exist and an explanation is in no way admitting it's okay that people do these things. It only sheds light into the darkness that is the human psyche. Rehabilitation has yet to help these types of people. Atleast to my knowledge. So she does indeed deserve life with no parole.

foxdesignbuild foxdesignbuild There is definitely a difference between psychopaths and sociopaths. The first main difference would be that the development of psychopathy has a biological aspect as well as environmental. People are born as psychopaths however, many people wouldn’t realise this as usually something would have to happen to make the individual ‘snap’, an example of which could be abuse. Sociopathy is developed as a result of environmental factors. People that don’t have experience in this field often confuse both psychopathy and sociopathy which is obviously understandable as they definitely share similar traits. However, there are more conditions that also share some of these traits for example, anti-social personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder which is why forensic psychologists do have to go through university and get a degree rather than just learning character traits and symptoms from the internet and different pieces of research. You also have to be careful when using information from researchers and you would have to thoroughly evaluate the methodology before determining whether it is both reliable and valid (particularly looking at ecological validity as many researchers use lab studies).

Paulina Buncic - 1. The programme briefly covers the abuse the murderer recieved as a child. Given the sketchyness of the details how can you be so sure that it was the same as you're experience? 2. You're statement about remembering what she should have remembered what it felt like to be abused seems to suggest that you really don't know what you're talking about regardless of your alleged experience of abuse. Perhaps you should take some time out from KZbin and read up on developmental psychology and pay particular attention to the long terms effects of abuse?
@alyssasalmon705
@alyssasalmon705 6 жыл бұрын
Simon W I think she was referring to the *Psychologist* stating that abuse begets abuse. When not all people with abusive childhoods grow up to abuse others, let alone rape and kill kids. Reading a text book is not the same as experiencing it first hand! *Perhaps YOU should take some time out of KZbin and Live being abused long term?*

In fact a lot of childhood victims of abuse CONTINUE to be victims of abuse in their adult relationships, especially domestic violence. Not always becoming an abuser themselves.
@simonw1313
@simonw1313 6 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Salmon - One 1st hand experience of abuse is simply an anecdote that proves nothing either way, and how on earth can the OP say she suffered an identical level of abuse when so little information is given on the level abuse suffered by the subject of this programme? That unfounded claim casts a shadow on the OP's original claim of being abused. I have lived long term with a level of abuse - as a child (psychical and psychological) and during a relationship as an adult (psychological) so please don't make assumptions about my life experiences. As for "textbooks" - you can learn a lot from someone who has studied abuse, the effects of abuse and undoubtedly spent considerable time working with victims of abuse. You're correct in saying that victims of abuse as children are more likely to be abused as adults than the general population. That doesn't change the fact that victims of abuse are more likely to be abusers than the general population. It means that abuse, particularly when a child, is a disaster for the hopes of the abused leading a normal happy life.
@alyssasalmon705
@alyssasalmon705 6 жыл бұрын
Ok I guess I'll agree to disagree because we both have our own experience points of reference, and perspectives. I just felt that they did say a lot about the abuse Teri suffered as a child, although not all graphically spelt out, incident by incident. Enough to sound horrific, with all types of abuse and drugs etc. so I felt you were making assumptions about the OP's life experiences? How do you know what levels of abuse she suffered? (when you just ask me not to do that to you?) I agree you can gain a lot from text books, that's true. Also I think I got a bit heated with your last paragraph saying the op should 'take some time off KZbin' which is assuming also, it just came off as condescending imo

Well no, abuse, neglect etc doesn't allow your brain to develop properly and the signals try to create other paths in the brain. Which can be faulty. And unfortunately, it's commonly part of the brain that controls emotion etc. So it is dependent of how their brain's developed at the time of abuse and so on. That also doesn't mean all will go on to abuse or murder. She's went down a path that got her where she was and she chose to do what she done. There is also no evidence to suggest abused children go on to abuse. It's a small percentage that do.

This case always has and always will make me emotional. I remember this as it happened, my family and town were in a state of distress as we lived less than an hour away. I was 7 or 8 at the time, a year younger than her. We have the same name, same interests- if I remember correctly she had a bratz backpack, a similar one to my own. My parents were so concerned as she was so alike my sister and I. I was never told details about her case, just that she was abducted and murdered. It took years before my family was comfortable letting my sister and I walk to the bus stop and eventually to school on our own. She would've been approaching her 20th birthday in the next few days, if only the world could've gotten the chance to see the woman she would've become. Tori was such a beautiful soul, I will always remember her. May she forever rest in peace ❤❤

She also had a troubled family life. Hell, no one reported her missing until HOURS after school let out. Her neediness made her a target~she must have been lonely to choose to walk off with a stranger rather than run to her own home, like happy children do. If she had shunned McClintock's proffered ``hand of friendship,'' McClintock and Rafferty would have had to try again for a different victim.

Drugs are no excuse for violence against children. You chose to get high. Tristezza Lamento Luciano - Erm the programme doesn't take the position that drugs turned this young woman into a murderer but that an abusive childhood (psychological, physical and sexual) greatly increases the likelihood that the child will eventually commit destructive dysfunctional acts of which this case is an extreme example. * Ammended as missed out word "acts" which apparently caused some confusion.

"Abuse begets abuse." I really hate that statement. 1) Not all abused children then go on to abuse other children once they become adults. A lot of abuse survivors remember only too well how it feels to be the victim and wouldn't dream of harming another child in ANY way. 2) This statement gives someone with a sick mind an excuse to go out and abuse a child.
@kitj1689
@kitj1689 8 жыл бұрын
+Pen ML You're right to an extent. There is a spectrum in mental health - it's not just black and white. On the stronger end of the mental health spectrum, those who were abused, have the capacity and power to overcome their past, and become better people - breaking the cycle. There are those on the weaker end of the spectrum, who do not have that control, turn to extreme substance abuse to escape reality, and abuse other people (children) who are defenseless.
@w1lf1ewoo
@w1lf1ewoo 8 жыл бұрын
+Pen ML 1) They said a child who has suffered abuse is many times more likely to grow up and abuse than a child who hasnt. That clearly makes sense. Abuse begets abuse is, like all such statements is a generalization and to that extent it is true enough to be valid. Of course it doesnt apply to everyone, many ex-abuse sufferes DO NOT go on to abuse and indeed try extra hard to be good who knows what the %s are, but most of , if not all abusers have suffered abuse themselves, it doesn t forgive them their crimes but it helps explain it... 2) IT absolutely does not give anyone an excuse with a sick mind to go out and abuse because as we know they and others have been given life sentences, you do not get any more a lenient sentence bcs you were abused previously yourself!

Exactly. I was consistently beat as a chid and I was absolutely angered by this 'educational' approach to explaining this horror. In most cases, I agree with you, the abused would NEVER allow or be able to watch another person, especially a child suffer. Based on this line of reasoning, I simply do not believe this 18 year olds story. If anything, she would be on trial for killing the man who told her to lure the little girl to the car.

Tara's drug abuse was directly related to Tori's abduction, rape and murder. Tara bought hundreds of Oxies from TLM and Carol, TLMs mother. There was a debt and Tara even brought Tori with her to buy Oxies. Carol, TLM and Mike were well aware of who Tori was and Tori was targeted for sure. What are the odds that they picked Tori out of a an entire public school of children her age?

I agree. It is because of people like this that I won't even let my children walk from my car to their classroom alone. I actually walk into the school with them and watch them walk into their classroom before I leave. I remember when Tori went missing I was pregnant with my first daughter, and how sick I felt when they found her body right before I was due. I will never forget this little girl. It's just a reminder to hug your babies tighter. 😢

I was abused. I always tried to stand up for the bullied when I was a child, and have and never will hit my kids. This "drug-addict mom = faulty brain" way of thinking is exactly the way racists think. You can look at stats and draw "true" conclusions about patterns, but you can't live that way. I say this because I was a sensitive and thoughtful kid, and one of the hardest things about the experiences for me, even at 6 years old, was worrying that people would now think I would do what was done to me, to someone else.

I’m sure they had a lot of emotions and grief ! Just saying . This isn’t a movie or a tv series where you’re crying 24/7 . The crime happened in 2009 over 10 years ago . I’m sure the parents went through a traumatic emotional event but you can’t just cry, be depressed , full of guilt , and lull yourself emotionally for 10 years. You eventually get tired and stop crying and move on ... that’s how it is .

I cannot watch stories like this about precious children being harmed in any way. Anyone who hurts and harm's children in any way should be castrated/ given hystorectomies and locked away for life in solitary confinement with no possibility of parole ever as they are predators and predators can not ever be rehibillated. Rest peacefully precious little one, one thing they can't ever get away from is KARMA whether it's in this lifetime then the next. Our karma is how we treat other living beings.

Everyone handles grief differently. Some people are emotionless . That doesn’t mean they didn’t care. And sometimes tears run out for some people. I lost my dad not even a year ago. And sometimes thinking and talking about him I don’t cry at all and I think.. am I numb ? And then other days I can’t stop crying . I did a news interview about his accident right after it happened and I couldn’t cry. Something about the camera pressure. But there’s not a day I don’t think about or miss him.
