I do tend to agree that Tom seems to be one of the best engine builders in the world. I would definitely choose NRE to work on mine or build me one. His engines are a work of art and genius. You can SEE how much he loves his job when he tests them. Not that easy to get a monster engine like that to idle that smoothly. And he's certainly not stupid. Probably pays more in taxes than most people make in a year. I think that one person complaining about Tom racing in the streets is entitled to their opinion but perhaps a bit overzealous about it. Tom is certainly NOT racing in the streets just hammering the throttle every now and again. Like a kid with a new toy. Don't blame him. Must be a real natural high. And it does look like he goes out of his way to stay out of the residential areas and confine his joy/test rides/drives to the industrial areas. Perhaps that one person complaining had a very bad experience with people actually racing in the streets and maybe even losing a loved one because of it. It's hard to tell where people are coming from sometimes. You don't know the circumstances. Or maybe just a jealous competitor dissing Tom. For me, personally, I hope Tom stays in business a long, long time and the heck with the detractors. And no, I'm not affiliated with NRE. Wish I was.

@Cragified10 жыл бұрын
The best drivers in the world make mistakes and die in controlled places called drag strips and race tracks. On public roads life has this habit of throwing the unexpected at you, speeding and loose barely hooked up that unexpected quickly becomes an unavoidable accident. Tom is a great engine builder and a competent driver to be able to keep the car pointed while it is skating under that torque. Still no matter how you look at this doing it on active public roads with traffic is irresponsible.

Not too mention the possibility of a small human or, even an Adult OR, someone's pet could venture out in the road, a good distance from where that car...or others...Picks up that helacious speed and, sadly someone or, something gets killed AND, just maybe the driver. I'm ALL for speed but, not in neighbourhoods. It's a wonder no one calls any Law Enforcement. I was just thinking...man he's leaving a LOT of rubber on that stretch of the street. Not too mention, he is kind of breaking the Law....speed limit is probably 25mph...maybe lower. Find a long, isolated straight stretch of road and, that even allows you to drive the car even longer lol.

I'm being sincere.If you read some of my latest comments with someone else who posts here,i think Mr. Nelson is quite reckless and foolish drag racing on the city streets.You are very wise that he should take it to a better place where it is more safe or to a strip.I have a feeling he doesn't want to tear up his customer's cars when he finally get's traction,ie,driveshaft,transmission or rear end.
@DrainPipeJoe10 жыл бұрын
9 camarocowboy That's drag racing? It looked to me to be some low to medium speed burnouts in Chatsworth's Industrial center. I didn't see two cars side by side with the wheels in the air, hitting upwards of 190mph, which cars today can do and which most people would call drag racing. If he did tear up those parts, since he was the one to fabricate and build those parts, I don't think he's worried about doing so.

Well fuck, why not say fuck instead of F-bomb? I wasn't aware of any mandatory internet censorship. I personally think it's a nice change of fucking pace for once. I mean for fucks sake why not talk like you normally would instead of censoring yourself? It makes it seem a hell of a lot more realistic, rather than some toned down bullshit. If you don't like the language, change the channel, trying to censor, or shame people into self censoring is bullshit.

@tod118810 жыл бұрын
1990notch got a 2 spd power glide in my corvair lol
@albertgaspar6277 жыл бұрын
The Powerglide isn't the only strong automatic trans, there's the Turbohydromatic 400 and Mopar's Hemi Torqueflite 727. What the Powerglide offers is a first gear with a numerically low first gear ratio, 1.48 versus the 2.48 of say the TH400. When you have a big engine making a lot of torque at launch, the steeper 2.48 first gear of a 3 speed will just blow away the tires, while the 1.48 is only multiplying it 1 and a half times. You get a cleaner launch, and yet can run a steep rear axle ratio so that you keep the RPMS up in the higher gears of the transmission. To not blow the tires away in a 3 speed automatic, you would have to run more highway/economy gears, and that would lose multiplication once the car has overcome inertia.
@StumpyVanLife11 жыл бұрын
He said in the video it had a gear vendors overdrive unit. That turns a 2 speed into a 4 speed. 1st , 1st over , 2nd , 2nd over. However a lot of older cars , 50's and 60's only had a 2speed powerglide from the factory. They worked just fine.

What you missed is that it has what's called a Gear Vendors Overdrive. Which is a manually or electronically controlled 2 or 3 speed unit.
