A vehicle is NOT an investment, its a depreciating asset. BUT still do what you can to make it last. Just bought a 2017 Tundra, hopefully the LAST truck I buy, am 62 years old now.

Great video. I think the Toyota engineers knew their business. It has been long enough since the deletion of the trans cooler that we would have heard of massive Tundra transmission failures by now. This has not materialized. Toyota is too hyper vigilant about their reliability reputation to do something reckless.

I purchased the genuine transmission cooler kit for my 2021 tundra..came with the same Toyota valve but also included original Toyota hard lines and a cooler…must have if you tow
@danbaxa Жыл бұрын
Lawrence, What did that cost you? I just got an estimate to that job from the Toyota dealer where I bought our 2021 Tundra. 6.5 hours labor and $ 2000 for parts. I don't think that includes any Vaseline. They also said if I didn't use all the genuine Toyota parts it would void my warranty. I have about 16k miles on our SR5 DC that I do use for towing. Thanks in advance.

I did get a call back from the dealership saying they had made a mistake on the estimate. Said they priced the job for a 2022 rather than a 2021 and that if I could come up with parts they could put them on in 1 hour. ?? Thanks for your reply!

I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra crewmax 4x4 and lucky enough to have the cooler, I am disappointed that I do not have the trans temp gauge. Thank you for this video. We installed a cooler on my buddies 2020 TRD PRO using your advice, just wanted to say thank you sir.

Thank you for the video. Very clear explanation. So. We have to put the pin back when we change out the transmission? How hard is it since we don’t have the space around to do it. Not very good design from Toyota Can we just leave the pin in it to keep the flow path open at all time?

Thanks a bunch! Gonna do this to my 21’….I’m pissed the deleted the zerks on the drive shaft as well. F’ers!
@marshmower3 жыл бұрын
It's a slightly different part for the 4.6 4x4 which also didn't get a cooler starting back about 6 years ago. But regardless of model, lines can be attached directly to the trans. If you do that, bypass the coolant line. Otherwise they should have used a much bigger heat exchanger to keep the temps stabilized. Probably the fact that companies assume the end user is a dumb bag of cells.

How’s the transmission cooler system doing? I’m thinking about getting one too
@johnspitta67252 жыл бұрын
Howdy. I'm in the middle of my install. I'm probably over thinking this. I assume the cooler is itself doesn't have a flow direction. Meaning. Fluid coming in and Fluid coming out could go either way. I'm pondering something.

what is the purpose of the little pin? This is not clear to me. Sorry if I'm dense.
@DirtE30 Жыл бұрын
The pin is a manual override for the trans cooler thermostat.
@groth3395 Жыл бұрын
@@DirtE30 Yes I realize that. But is it removed after filling / checking trans fluid?
@DirtE30 Жыл бұрын
@@groth3395 oh sorry, yes, once you’re done, you remove the pin holding in the thermostat. It will then operate as intended and open at around 195f to allow circulation of the fluid to and from the external cooler.
@truthjustice33133 жыл бұрын
Great video. I had a 2016 and now a 2021 that I need to do this on. Can you confirm which of the two hose barbs on the thermostat cooler assembly is the output? Is it the top one aligned with the pin or the other one? I want to ensure that the output is installed on the bottom of the plate cooler. Also, is it ok to install everything totally empty and then top off fluid level in tranny plug? No concern with air bubbles / pockets? I'm still trying to figure out the best way to estimate the quantity of additional fluid needed. Thanks!
@DirtE303 жыл бұрын
It’s the one nearest the pin. The way I determined that was to pre fill the hose/cooler assembly and then pour it out and measure what comes out. Then add that amount after install. Won’t hurt a thing to install it dry.
@truthjustice33133 жыл бұрын
@@DirtE30 Great thx for the quick reply. I'm going to use DeRale HD hose the entire way as well instead of messing with the metal lines part of the way. Less connections and potential leaks. And using the Hayden 679 cooler. Should be a more efficient cooler than my OEM 2016! Thanks again.
