Thanks for the video, I have a 1923 Fordson myself. You should mention that it’s important to run the proper oil in the rear as there are brass parts in there. Also I believe Mobile 600w steam cylinder oil is ISO 460 which is around SAE 140, technically not 600 weight although it sure takes a long time to fill!

Sweet tractor and good explanation of the F models. You earned a seat and free access to cold beverages if you ever find yourself in the north east.

Many thanks and much appreciated. I've been subscribed to your channel and love the Detroitson! That was a lot of long nights and true engineering for sure!

Very nice presentation and it did answer some things I've been curious about. We had one of these model F tractors on our farm in Kansas. My parents bought the 80 acre farm in '42 and I believe the tractor came with it. The metal cleat wheels had been cut off and new, pneumatic rubber tires fitted - I remember the removed wheels lying in some junk next to the machine shed when I was very young. Most notable thing was the engine had been replaced with a grafted in Buick 6, probably mid '30s vintage. The underside of the oval cross-section Fordson fuel tank had been modified to allow for the rocker cover of the Buick engine with a flat bottom. It still had the iconic radiator and I recall it smoking some in hot weather. Later, I learned to drive the tractor and pulled hay trailers from the field to the barn with it. The farm was sold off in the early '50s and have wondered what became of that very unique Fordson.

It is quite something all of the modifications that people made to these tractors to keep them running over the years. Many people had a lot of skill and mechanical know-how to make most anything. Yes, it would be interesting to find that tractor and bring it back to life!

@@duginvirginia5737 Do you know the bore and stroke of the Fordson engine? I'm curious as to what model T parts might have been used. EDit: Disregard, answered in another video. It was larger displacement than the T.

@@whalesong999 The first ten years or so, it was a 4" bore / 5" stroke. Sometime around 1928 and onward, the pistons became 4.25 inch. Regarding parts shared with the Model T, the only things I can think of off hand are the coil box, coils, magneto contact (later model T's), the comutator (timer), spark plugs, and the V shaped magnets on the flywheel.

My compliments on your informative presentation of the F model. Regarding the air cleaner, where is the air sourced from or, how does it actually get into the cleaner to be washed? Thank you from Australia.

The air cleaner has a tube cast into the bottom half of its body. Air is drawn in from the outside and from the bottom of the air cleaner. It travels up through the tube and then encounters a brass float assembly that forces the air into the water. The air bubbles that emerge are now "clean" air that is also damp and provides better ignition when running kerosene. Here is a link to a manual with great illustrations on the air flow. Scroll down the the 16th image in the scan and it shows a cutaway of the air cleaner and process. The next page shows the air flow from the air cleaner and into the mixing chamber, manifold, etc. Of note, there is one parts supplier who has marketed a dry type air filter whereby the brass floats are removed and a rectangular dry type automotive air filter is fitted into the housing and acts as a conventional air filter. www.cimorelli.com/mtdl/1920/1920fordson.pdf
