Good to see you are able to carve out some time to work on the GP. You definitely look right at home and in your element wrenching on vintage tractors in your garage. Appreciate the video!🚜👍

Thanks for the video Kenny! We all need to get things done instep of plays next Saturday and Sunday I’ll be going to a show close to me. Take the 460 one day and the 756 another. Got quick adjust the 460’s brakes tho. Nice to see the Gp coming along. Thanks again and can’t wait for the next one

Nice work Kenny. Hey, have you heard from Hans at Tractor Hoarders lately? He's been offline for quite a while.

I have heard from him. He has a lot going on outside of KZbin right now. He is doing well, though!

Nice work and progress! Say, what is the purpose of a clutch on the fan anyway? I hope that nobody is thinking that it would save their fingers and/or hand if they contact the leading edge of the spinning fan.
@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch Жыл бұрын
The purpose of the clutch fan is to prevent wear and tear on the governor and fan shaft gears on start up. The quick jerking of the two cylinder engines would be pretty hard on those small gears. The clutch fan allows for some slippage during that brief moment. Funny you mention fingers in a steel fan blade... I actually did that on a Farmall C of mine many years ago! Got lucky!

@@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch Oh, I see. Nice explanation Kenny. I guess that was good engineering from JD then. It certainly has survived the test of time. Now, the fingers, or hand, in the fan part of the discussion: Along with my decade of field refrigeration work, I saw several bad accidents involving fans. If you contact the trailing edge (discharge edge) of the blade, you hand gets hit very hard and kicked out (ask me how I know that) . Swear words are used and the Rolex may need a new crystal, but you move on. If your body contacts the leading edge of the fan blade, parts get chopped off or severely cut up. Its going to be bad! I saw a man that had that happen. Also, some pieces of equipment have pusher fans. These are dangerous as the leading edge is usually on the side the mechanic is working on! I know this because my late brother got his fingers chopped off from a fan like this on a Cat. Be careful around fans especially if they are sucking air in! If the equipment has a fan guard, make sure it is in good condition and properly installed! If it doesn't, refuse to work on it.

My JD D has no serial tag. I bought it as a 29. Your D has a few differences. I’m thinking mine is actually a 28 Does yours have a clipped hood or a bolted on hood?
@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch Жыл бұрын
I believe the hood on my '28 D is held on by the clips. There are many small changes made from '24 to '30 on the D-Series tractors.

What did you do to the fan shaft where it was so sloppy? Wasn't that this tractor?
