One of my uncles had a 54 Vic. He swapped in a 312 out of a 56 Merc. Had a Ford-O-Matic and later a 3 speed manual. He raced it a fair bit in the late 50s-early 60s and had won a few trophies with it. In a race even with a 2v 302, the Vic’s going to be lighter. I like the mid 70s full size Chevys as they’re good driving cars. I remember that even with a two barrel, it was common to turn the air cleaner lid upside down. That Vic still has more style.

This 1954 has a 302 with an automatic transmission.
