Ford reversed course from safety in 1957 and hurried out a new car that emhasized style and performance. A new chassis, suspension and a powerful Thunderbird V8 were the talking points not safety in 1957.

I'm 73 years old and I remember my neighbor purchasing this car it was beautiful, it was red and white.

Had a neighbor who traded an early '50s Dodge "Wayfarer" (the short 2dr sedan) for a '57 Ford wagon. Fancy one but no wood paneling. Was a brown metallic & white. (Might have been a 3 tone or had some sort of metal panel incorporated into the side trim. Even as a kid, thought it was pretty neat!

As iconic as the ‘57 Chevrolet is, Ford out sold Chevrolet in ‘57 with this car.

Just left a comment with someone else's comment about the same thing. Seems strange doesn't it. When new, more people went for the Ford & now the '57 Chevy is one of the 1950s most sought after cars.

1:12 Looks like they had a little paint match problem on the driver rear door! But in my opinion, '57 Ford had a much more pleasing body design than Chevy.

You weren't the only one who thought the '57 Ford looked better than Chevy. So did a lot of buyers. I'd have to go back & check sales figures but if I recall correctly '57 was one of the few years that Ford actually outsold Chevy. Strange that nowadays the '57 Chevy is one of the most sought after cars of the '50s & the Ford is treated like an "orphan"...?

@@DejaView Ford did have a rust problem; Chevy wasn't quite so bad. I know this from experience growing up in Iowa. I remember seeing a '57 Ford (I think it was a retractable) in a boneyard circa 1973 that was junked at 40,000 miles because the headlights collapsed due to rust. More Chevies survived. Just my experience. What a handsome car the '57 Ford is.

In 1956, Ford offered a safety package but was outsold by Chevy resoundingly. It was said at the time, "Ford sold safety, Chevy sold cars." No surprise that for 1957, Ford accented style and performance. It paid off for Ford that year as they outsold Chevy.

Paint on the rear door don’t match the rest of the car, it’s was a very handsome car, owned a custom 272 V-8 standard shift, red on the bottom white on the middle, then red on the top, she gave me a lot of miles one of the best cars I ever owned!

The similar 1958 and especially the 1959 Ford were better made but their styling wasn't as good.

They definitely missed the mark with the '58 restyle but I always thought the '59 was a nice looking car. Better than a '59 Chevy any day but for '58 I'd probably have taken the Chevy...

@@DejaView The 1959 Ford is an iconic design that GM and Chrysler would have never imitated. It also sold about 1.5 million units which was never repeated in the 1960s and 1970s.

Infowarslove not everyone can handle a safe, reliable, unique Ford. Look up "Ford Safety Campaign" and let's see if your death trap 57' Chevy has all the safety stock on it as much as the 57' Fords that OUT SOLD Chevy for the 57'Models
