I own a 1957 3E11. I have the original invoice. It also was ordered with 19.5" wheels, auxiliary springs and RADIO! Alas, a PO sold the radio, probably for as much as he paid for the truck! Mine is 2-tone greens and has the chrome front bumper. My Commander engine is being rebuilt right now, and the condition of this one is my ultimate goal. This video will be very helpful. Thank you for posting it. Also, that truck is the ultimate C cab. Congratulations on owning it and keeping it original. Some of us have to preserve them. I've refused offers, knowing what the buyers would do to it. I told them if they wanted to put a SBC in something that originally didn't have one, do it to a Chevy!

This one has left me speechless and smiling at such a work of art, about 50 years ago old man neighbor had a two-wheel drive Studebaker about the same year it was a three speed and had three overdrive levers that came out of the dash, I think he road that truck for 60 years LOL
@davidschmidt60133 жыл бұрын
WOW!!!! I was born in '56, in Pittsburgh. The INSTANT I saw this video's thumbnail, it took me back to the house in which I was born, and a neighbor, up the hill and around the corner (but back then anyone within 100yds was a 'neighbor') who had a truck like this...not 4WD of course, just a standard 'street-pickup', and I remember the bed always had toolboxes and pipes in it when my friends and I would go past it and grab the sides of the bed-walls to jump up, hold on for a few precious seconds and look into the bed. (Boys and trucks...I don't care WHAT they say, it's in our DNA!!) His was two-tone, white top and blue below. I didn't know the words at the time, but the CONTRAST OF THE LINES, ( the thick and vertical grill sections on the front, and then the horizontal and graceful chrome trim moulding on the doors below the windows) just did something to my mind's eye... Amazing to see it on the YT today! You just took me back 60 years! Feels good!! lol Thanks for creating and sharing this vid!!

What an awesome truck. I am a car lover and I have not seen something so special for a long time. Love the little details that set this truck apart. The way the doors were stamped to provide a grab handle, the door panel, which is also painted metal, no firewall so you can see the back side of the gauges... So cool. Tks a lot for sharing, this is a beautiful truck.

In 1970 a friend of mine was a member of a Studi family; they had this model truck; his dad drove a Golden Hawk; and he had a '63 Avanti. He bored out the original 390ci engine until, as he put it, "You could see through the cylinder walls". It was the fastest I'd ever been in a car, and I liked to drive fast myself. In the early' 60s the company made a small (relatively) car called the Lark for the economy market. It was kinda dumpy and boxy, but it could be ordered with front disc brakes, a supercharged 289ci V8 and manual tranny, so no one had to look at it for too long before it was gone in a cloud of rubber smoke. The only problem with Studebakers was that they lasted too long, and that affected sales.
@budlewis7213 жыл бұрын
@Honky Tonk Studebaker? I don't think so. You are obviously unfamiliar with the product.
@budlewis7213 жыл бұрын
@Honky Tonk You're right; I did not interpret your comment to mean that. It's true that the practice of planned obsolescence was ubiquitous at the time ('60s). But I certainly didn't put that on Studebaker's head officers, who held on to the principle of producing quality vehicles, doubtless a holdover from their 19ᵗʰ century buggy building days. The result was a longer lasting car that cost more money in a time of increasing consumer demand for lower-priced cars. It was a formula that wasn't sustainable at the time, especially in light of their merger with Packard a couple-4 years earlier. It, too, was a pricier, more Hi-Tōn car, which didn't help improve their position in a highly competitive market.

I had a 1947 Studebaker pickup truck in High School. All metal, no plastic. The transmission required double clutching properly in order to drive it. The cab was small, and I believe that the front and rear fenders were interchangeable. By the time I got it ( 1971 ) the motor was worn and the 6 volt starter needed to be jumped with a 12 volt battery to start it on cold mornings. It even came with a custom wooden canopy over the bed for camping. A great truck for $100.

In my younger years when i used to drive a lot trough the San jJoaquin Valley in Fresno Ca .i was lucky to see some of these vintage truks parked for sale on the side of the roads at these small farming comunnities, some of them needed mayor restoration work ., i figure parts for these type of vehicles must be hard to find now.

Very cool. Interesting that there's no firewall. I've done more work than I care to inside the dash of various cars, and seeing this layout, my life could have been a lot easier if I could have just done the work from under the hood instead. A removable firewall held on by a small number wing nuts would be a great design for both safety and ease of repair. Not that it matters these days. There's so much crap packed into such a tiny space in cars now that it wouldn't do you any good anyway.
