Loved the styling of the late 50's and early 60's , GM really had sharp lines and no shortage of chrome

Buick Electra Deuce + 1/4's were always iconic American luxury cars that were better than Caddy Coupe DeVilles in my experience!!! In 1960, you had the Electra 225,Electra,Invicta & the Le Sabre. The Electra 225 was the top Buick!!! A very great automobile!!!

Super iconic car, both years of 1959 and 1960, which was the height of the tailfins. All of the 1959 GM big body two door hardtops are just one of my all time dream cars.

We had a '60 like this, as a kid the mirrored speedo and the little magnifying glass for the gear selector used to fascinate me, and the body was rolling sculpture. They looked so good in white - I felt like a King riding in the back of that car....

In my youth I had this exact same model, but in black. Magnificent. I loved the flat-top "spacecar" all-around window greenhouse and the speedometer appearing on a mirror for adjusting the view height. Fortunately, mine also had working factory air. Sadly, in the 1970s the motor needed a valve job and and in those days, people were going for smaller, fuel-efficient cars. So my baby had to go. Today I would have NEVER givien it up.

Question: Why do there seem to be more 1960 Buicks around, than the 1959s? The 1959 had so much more style and personality ... the 1960 was a sort of rounded-over "dressed down" version of the real deal.

Every GM brand shared this same greenhouse for their top-line hardtop sedans at the time. Olds Holiday 98, Pontiac Star Chief, and the Chevy Impala. Even the Cadillac DeVille used it. I guess I never realized how much GM started badge-engineered cars back then as well.

The 1959 and 1960 Buick Electra 225 RIVIERA Sedan used a different roofline ...6-Window design only shared with the Cadillac Series 62 and DeVille.
@kirbywaite15863 жыл бұрын
They weren't badge engineered. All of them had exclusive sheetmetal , their own engines and in some instances their own transmissions. In 1960 Bentley and Rolls were more alike than any GM model.
@SpockvsMcCoy3 жыл бұрын
@@kirbywaite1586 Yes, but there was more commonality than in 1958 like firewall, windshield, glass, roof, and interior body panels. GM had to rush the radically new 1959 designs once Chrysler Corp new 1957 designs arrived in Fall 1956.

What a lovely looking car. I had a '59 Electra flat top and though prefering the earlier styling get why many go for the '60. The ride could put many modern cars to shame and one time the performance of that 401 and triple turbine was good enough for me to give a big surprise to a guy in a new Jaguar wanting a challenge at the lights. I sold it nearly 30 years ago (obviously for a lot less than this!) and still have seller's regret! I'll say for sure that whoever buys this is going to be a very happy customer.

Was there just a Buick Electra ? Not a Buick Electra 225 ? I think so, the dash on the one I saw just said Electra, this beautiful car here says Electra 225 on the dash. And the trunk stamping is different, meaning the support under the rear trunk is different.

What's really messed up these days is that, with available financing, these prices are pretty competitive with new cars. Also, in some cases they have better parts availability.

It was my impression a major difference between sedan and hardtop was the sedan had a noticeable B pillar and the hardtop (this one) did not. Wide open spaces on each window side of the car. Can only imagine how squashed those cars (and passengers) would look if they rolled over!
@jonathanmorrisey5771 Жыл бұрын
Buick and Cadillac in 1959-60 got a 6-window 4dr hardtop that followed the post sedan roofline and had a small quarter window, but was pillarless.

Dude you're missing the most important feature of this design: IT'S PILLARLESS. There is no structural support for the roof at the point where the front and rear doors meet. It's not about a "flat roof".
