This 75 hp Johnson has been a real challenge. When the owners first brought it to me it wouldn’t start. They took it to three different Marinas for service and still couldn’t get it running. One of the Marinas refused to work on it because it was too old and there was considered cost prohibitive.
I was able to get it running but it idled rough and developed a slight miss a WOT. I gave it a tune up with new plugs, points and condenser and still it was hard to start with a slight miss at WOT.
I discovered the distributor pulley had a sheared woodruff key and the distributor shaft was also sheared causing the timing to be off. I found a replacement power head on one of my Johnson/Evinrude Facebook groups and the owner purchased it for the parts. In this video I swapped out the reed block and Distributor. If this doesn’t make the motor run better I’ll have to swap out the Power Head.
Let’s see what happens!
