I enjoy watching those old louvers "venting" whilst you are driving. I had that valve cover on my old 42 Chevies before I switched to the later 235 engines. I didn't care for it much then, but it is nostalgic for me now... Nice setup and it does sound really good.

yeah, might have only been a couple of horses but like you say..the old timers knew how to get it..and just hearing that old 80 year old engine kick over and start belching smoke just makes my heart pound! haha

It sounds great! Who woulda thought 80+ years ago this thing would still be running with the original engine. Very cool! The dual pipes look good!

Sounds great! I had a Chevy 250 in a Ventura that we had a Clifford 4bbl intake & full length headers with Thrush glass packs. They have a sound all their own. I just noticed your plug 'wires'.... they are perfect on that machine!

yeah.. its all torque.. even tho this is the predecessor to the 216.. only 50 hp. sometimes I wish I had more power pulling the hill to my house but I love the novelty of this old engine.. 81 years old and running strong!

Like to see the old 6 cyl get some love. Back in the day when the Chevy OHV and the Mopar flatheads outran the V8 flathead Fords. There was a time where split intake and exhaust manifolds were available for the Mopar 6. Mounted 2 deuces and made max torque but low rpm. Sounded mean like only a flathead 6 can. I'd like to see and hear one running again. On to newer....The 292 Chevy 6 was a torque monster! The 300 Ford was a gas miser after 1974 with plenty of power. Many of them found their way into super6 racecars.

Back when Shorty of H&B Welding ( crankshaft grinding/ machine shop in Omaha, Nebraska) was till alive he built a Chevy Six that outran the small block V-8's at the local dragstrip by cutting in half a cylinder head from a Chev 327 and them cutting into thirds another identical head. He then welded the center piece of the second head, which held two chambers, between the two halves from the first head, thus making a six-cylinder, cross-flow head. I don't remember which side the 2 heads were from, but that 6-banger ran hard enough to beat the V-8's. What do you think? Got a machine shop/welder in your area good enough to give it a try? It'd sure be novel and your pipes wouldn't have to run under the motor.
@towrecker12 жыл бұрын
I have a cool idea for you , finding ones the right size could prove a bit hard , but we have the internet , my idea is for part of your bracket , and also the clamp for the stacks , use connecting rods , finding a rod with a 2.25 big end or whatever size that pipe is will be a good sized rod , one small mounting tab off the valve cover bolts to connect to could work , but if you had the rod and piston , you might could drill a hole in the piston , and bolt it to the valve cover with the nuts ..

Danny Walker I turned down hundreds of ideas from youtubers because I wanted everything to come from my own noggin. besides, if I took everyones ideas and applied them.. this thing would have looked like a xmas tree with ornaments hanging here and there.. A couple of things I believe to be completely original... the drive in speakers for breathers for one.. and I've never seen anyone before use the glass insulators for signal lights.. I'm proud of that one! they work great.. havent seen that before or since.. thanks for checking it out... stay tuned!

oh.. smoking is what those old engines did.. no pressurized oil system.. just dippers on the bottom of the rod caps slinging oil on the pistons .. makes em smoke a bit.. funny when I hit a bump and slosh the oil around.. it throws out a puff of smoke for a second lol
@njmvermont11 жыл бұрын
OMG how do you use barbed wire as spark plug wires? did you wrap the original wire around it or is that just normal barbed wire? its the little things like that that make this vehicle.
@MrComaToes12 жыл бұрын
From everything I've read a couple of HP sounds about right... Not a big deal when adding that to a 200 horse engine... different story when adding it to an engine rated at 60 HP when NEW! Haha yessir, a nice shot in the arm for the old girl!

"I notice it's got a little more power, believe it or not" It's funny when that happens, isn't it? But those old rodders sure knew what worked to get extra HP out of a straight 6 for cheap. Plus, she sounds like she's got more grunt... nice deep tone compared to the old exhaust. It sure looked to me like that was the fastest you've ever taken the Ratter up that driveway on vid.

It's a cool idea... too bad you couldn't cut the pipes on that same roof line angle but the flappers, although you might could rengineer'em... be cool either way. I had a thought of how cool it would be if you used some of that heavy wire you make spider webs out. Lay it across the pipes like frets and then make the exhaust into a big ol' guitar neck like the one for the shifter You could build the head out of wire with the flappers inside! Just thinking about that stuff way too much Hahaha
