When I installed mine on my 66 if I were to drill two new holes they would hit the support behind the firewall. I am still in the middle of the build, but I only have the two bolts in it and think it should hold just fine. Especially with less foot pressure needed to stop.

When we drilled our holes it just cleared the support you are talking about. Two bolts is not enough.
