I'm restoring my Grandpa's '62 short bed C10. He died in 1976 (I was born in '99) and it has been sitting for at least 30 years. I'm learning what it takes to make an old truck new again. Blood, sweat, tears, and a whole LOT of money and patience. Just ran the stroked 283 I built for it today and it purrs like a kitten. Good luck.

Yeah, Like when I/we were in high school You took all the different trade classes in 9-10th grade. Then chose one your junior and senior year. I took auto tech, tested 5th in the state out of 175,000 auto tech students. Before that certification thing started. Great experiences all. I did this kinda stuff when I was younger and not handicapped.

I'll never forget those cold mornings going out to start my 65 gmc. I didn't do much to the body since it didn't have that much wrong with it, but I did install a 350 under the hood with a holly carb. Mine was 4 on the floor and I never changed the rear end, so you could get out and walk beside the truck in 1st; made a great hay hauling pickup. You should be proud of this accomplishment. It looks great! I like myself everyday for getting rid of my 65, so don't ever get rid of yours!

Well I have about 20+ years in auto body and restoration. I must say that is some good fabrication! Keep it up! Here is a tip, as every auto body tech in the world is different, you may try this formula. Metal, fiberglass filler, and polyester filler over plastic/bondo fillers. The why is it will take vibration, resist moisture, cracking, hard hits, expansion/retraction etc.

Thank you! This was my first time working on car sheet metal, and also my first time ever using bondo ha was a learning experience.... It has a few small hairline cracks in a couple of the bondo spots (where I welded seems), I now know that you almost always want to use glass filler over any welds and very light skim of lightweight on top

That's a hell of a nice job. A lot of seasoned restorers and some professionals would have walked away from that one due to the state of the cab when you started, or at least found a better cab. That kind of panel work is not easy, and making the repair pieces is definitely an acquired art but you did extremely well for a first restoration. You should rebuild the carburettor and any other mechanical work yourself too, if you can get your head around those kinds of body repairs then the mechanics should be dead easy for you, especially on something as simple as that. But try and find an older carb rebuild kit from a good maker, a lot of the parts in the new rebuild kits are poor quality and can cause as many problems as the original, tired unit has...

wow. how did you form the floor p pan replacements? what welder did you use? you obviously had welding experience before this? Did I say WOW, yet? I like the fact that you stuck with the old straight six!!

I used a small sheet metal break to form the rockers. The rest was all done with smaller pieces, welding, grinding, etc. I used (and still use) a small 110v solar brand welder. This was actually the first thing I did any sheet metal welding on. Now I do it almost everyday haha thanks for commenting and watching, sorry it took me 2 years to reply to this comment haha

This is awesome!! Love it! Im 17 and recently bought a 1971 GMC Seirra Grande with a Cadillac 472 in it! Cant wait to start really tearing into it! Its pretty rust free. All of the rust is at the rocker panels and cab corners which is where it usually is in that era. just finished rebuilding a turbo 400 for it. Next step it rebuilding a 454!! Keep it up man!!

Nice job my friend. I love it when people don't feel the need to buy all new "over the counter" products to do a restoration. It just shows that car guys, or gals, don't have to be necessarily wealthy to do this kind of thing. I have a 65 c10 long-bed that I am doing the same thing to at the moment. And I am doing the best I can to refuse paying the big dollars for over the counter replacement parts.

With the tools and space you had to work with you did one hell of a job. It honestly looks better than some of the people who do this for a living. Just bought a 77 Jeep J10 that i will be tearing apart this spring and doing something similar. It wont be a complete frame off restoration but will restored to the point where it looks good and can be driven without fear of scratching or getting it dirty.

Most "new" restorers just thumb through catalogs or Internet and just buy replacement fender , but you took the time to rebuild yours. Truck looks amazing! It's a beaut of a truck I'm in the process of restoring a 1966 c20 292 l6 4 on the floor but I have nowhere near as much work as you did Im very lucky every body panel is straight and it only has 27k original miles! I really respect that you patched and kept the original panels and didnt go aftermarket

awesome job! im 17 at the moment but im graduating highschool this year and my uncle has an old 67 ford f250 camper special with a custom cab (no camper included :( ) but he said i can have it for free, there is no visible rust last time i seen it, and just needs to be primed and painted, new brakes and brake lines and new windshield. (thats what i can tell it needs without inspection). so im planning on getting that this summer to build. gives me encouragement that somebody my age did it too!

That gives me inspiration to jump on my 65 C60 Chevrolet dump truck. The bottom of my hood across the front had been rusted out. Way back I welded in metal and skimmed fiberglass across it to stop it from any more. Those thresh plates and rockers are great looking. You did a lot of dirty grinding cutting and welding on your machine.

Back in the late 80's I was driving a 65 C-10 with a utility body on it. Had an emergency braking situation when the single line that feeds all four drums burst. Still amazed I didn't wreck it.

You are a VERY TALENTED young man. That 250 is a very good engine. Change your in carb filter once in a while. My Mom had a 69 K/5 Blazer 4×4 250 4 speed.
