In 1971 I started out w/ a used S90, then "graduated" to a used bike exactly like this. I loved it -- perfect size & handled well. Got hit by a car and it was sold off. Then later had a used 305. All three were reliable, great for their size & class. You did a superb resto job -- looks better than mine EVER did.

Thank you! It is a passion for me. I hope to do several more, but have to finish 4 superhawks and 3 scramblers first.

You did an amazing job, thanks. Strange how people call it a beginner's bike, I would ride that bike around the world, passing the big boys and never sweat having to pick it up if dropped.

Thank you, I agree. A bike like this (in black) was my first bike at 16 and always thought it was an amazing machine.

Jon, my very first Bike was a 1964 CB-160 Hawk!!! Red, just like yours! I got it used at 14 from a dealer here in Tulsa, OK, Jandeber's. 14 year-olds could have "5 HP' bikes officially, but @ 3500 RPM (like a Bridgestone) or Briggs powered bike, or the Harley-Davidson 12 1/2, maybe they figured it wasn't as fast as 90cc Suzuki, Yamaha or Kawasaki two-strokes. I bought the bike, my Momma bought me a full-face two-hundred pound Robin's-egg blue "BUCO" helmet, and said "You ride, you wear." In 56 years and a million AMA certified touring miles, I haven't ridden a cycle without a helmet more miles than I have fingers and toes! My first "road trip" on it was to Springfield, MO , about 1966 or 67 for "sliders" from White Castle! At 14, in OK, we weren't allowed on the I-44 Turnpike to Joplin, MO. But at the MO line, I left old Route 66 and sped-up to 55-60 MPH. Great resto-job you've done. The factory red paint seemed to oxidize "over-night" and give it a "pink haze".

Thank you, I'll have to post a video of the blue one I just finished. It has the earliest serial of any of the 10 160s I have restored. It was definitely built in 1964. Wearing a helmet or all the gear, all the time is a great idea for sure. I spend way more time working on them than riding them though. I have seen what you mean on some original paint parts. Hopefully this modern PPG single-stage paint I am using will hold up better. Thx for your comment!

My 2nd bike was a Honda 150 dream. They sold it to me as 150 but it may have been a 160. I learned to ride in my small back yard then on the street when my Parents Weren’t home. I was 14. My first bike was a Triumph 250 but count get it to run. Wish I’d kept both of them. I’m 71 now and still riding.

150/160 were definitely great bikes to start on. Glad to hear you are still riding!

I had a white one in 1966, too... first ride was Battle Creek to Lafayette - in March. Nearly froze to death; had to will my fingers to reach the clutch - they were almost stiff. Best handling bike I've ever ridden: could drift it around turns on those back roads in Indiana. 210 miles in three hours on two-lane blacktop, tucked in with my chin on the speedo. I miss that 160.

@alvonfinster2915 a 160 was my first bike when I was 16. I guess that’s why I have a fondness for them.

It is a job of excellence, only someone who is super detailed and has a lot of pride and passion for doing it, can achieve it! The magic of going back in time to a point almost impossible to achieve!

Thank you. My first bike at 16 was a 160 so I have a soft-spot for them. I've restored 31 bike over the last 8 years and 8 have been 160s. Look me up on Facebook "kosmotocustoms" and DM if you have any questions about restoring yours. I'm sure its going to turn out nice. Thanks for your comment.
