Excellent . More teens today should have this obsessive desire for strength training / nutrition ,instead of falling for idiotic viral trends online & relentless videogaming . Even today Larry would smoke many 'pros' competing. The winning smile alone merits a medal 🏅💪

Wow, Larry Scott's story is the stuff of legend. Vince Gironda's star student. What a way to start a career on bodybuilding. He finds a bodybuilding magazine and becomes obsessed with training and builds a makeshift gym and works out with raw materials and a simple set up. His beginning routine is basic and effective. He used the basic lifts and exercises for triceps and biceps. He really focused on his arms. It shows in his physique when he was at his peak. Great video on the simplicity of basic training and hard work bringing great results.

EZ bar preacher curls (shortened position), incline dumbell curl (lengthened position), and hammer curls (brachialis). That's all you need.
@MrJames-eb6rp4 ай бұрын
Preacher curl is mostly a brachialis exercise, due to the active insufficiency of the biceps.

I live in Missouri. I called Vince and asked him if I could train at his gym for a month. He said that I could for $100.00 dollars. I arrived in June of 1974. I walked in the gym and he asked me if I was the guy from Ohio. I said no. Then he asked me if I owned any of his books. Then I said no, however, I owned some of Larry Scott's books. He was quick to correct me. He said that Larry Scott did not write those books, Gene Mozee did. How could I have known? I had paid $2.00 each for them. I purchased chest, arms and thighs.

Scott's biceps had unusually along heads so they were very rounded. I actually think guys who have shorter biceps can be more impressive because they typically have a greater peak. When Scott won the Olympia his overall look was too drug enhanced looking, which was unusual considering his deep Mormon faith.
@GoldenEraBookworm3 жыл бұрын
Definitely enhanced
@Rocky13Ray3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Its all about presentation. The short bicep head is great, but most use this as an excuse not to train them well.when one does train them well, they look like PhIll heath and or lee priest ,both had great biceps,and still do.that being said, Larry and Sergio oliva and Samir bennut all had long bicep heads,yet all 3 of them have unmatched biceps.Because? They filled out the entire arm even with peaks.its all about presentation,this is bodybuilding after all💪, and come on,drug enchanced looking? He was simply that far on another lvl.thats why he is Legend. One could say the same about flex wheeler "Mr proportioned" he looked great .

Which goes to show you that drugs can overcome bad genetics. Scott was not blessed with great genetics. His steroid abuse did almost kill him in the early 70's. He suffered from kidney failure and liver toxicity. Not to mention his hair all but fell out. And for many years he did not lift another weight. Interesting side note, Larry also posed nude like George to supplement his income as the chemicals he ingested were not cheap. This is the dark side of bodybuilding that people like Ric Draisin and those of the golden era never talk about. The Gay porn and the hustling of admirer's that supplement their income.
@johnspartan98393 жыл бұрын
The amount of drugs any of the champs took back then could fill a thimble. Cost really wasn't a big issue either the choices were limited. I never condoned the use of steroids but I certainly was aware of there existence and amounts that most of the top guys used. Nothing even remotely close to what today's bodybuilder's are using. I must admit there was a pretty large market for semi nude/nude photos back then, for crying out loud I was offered $500 to have photos of me taken in leather chaps! The offer was tempting but I declined for moral reasons and the fear of losing my AAU status. We weren't accepted by the general public we had to find ways to make a buck to pay not for the drugs but for the food and actual supplements most folks thought we were narcissistic freaks who weren't mentally stable.

Larry looked to have pretty good musculature for an untrained kid. The potential was certainly there.
