I had my Dad take me to see the first Olympia at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.The crowd was electric and when Larry came out the crowd went wild!So all you heard was Larry,Larry over and over!I was 13 years old and remember it like it was yesterday.I met Larry at a convention and we talked about that Olympia.Larry was in his late 60s and still had an impressive arm.I stayed in touch with him and we met at several occasions when I travelled to Utah.He was the most gracious human being that I ever met!He had a beautiful wife and I understand him concentrating on his marriage.I didn’t see him towards the end.I miss the long phone calls where he offered his time always and gave me great training advice.I really had the honor of meeting and befriending my boyhood Idol!Larry the Legend RIP.

I saw him guest pose in the mid 70's at an IFBB contest. He probably weighed about 185 lbs at the time but he was impressive. As great as his arms were, his shoulders were just as good if not better. After the show I bought his workout manuals and asked him to autograph them. Super nice guy.

I saw Larry Scott in person at the 2003 or 2004 Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas. We were standing in line at a restaurant in one of the casinos. Looked just like a regular guy. Must have been in his mid sixties. It was awesome seeing one of my idols from my youth. Now I am approaching his age then and now I look just like a regular guy. Need to start back to the gym again. Nick's videos will help inspire me to return. Never to old to improve.

I agree on Larry Scott having some of the best arms of all time and definitely the best in his era. For me it is a combination of his full sweeping muscle bellies coupled with a near perfect tricep to bicep to forearm symmetry. Shame he's no longer among us. R.I.P. Great vid Nick.

I didn't know he passed away. He was my all time favorite back in the early 80's when I started lifting. I started out as a kid with 12" biceps and ended after a illness at age 37 with 19.25 " biceps. I'm 51 now and haven't trained since and out of curiosity, my biceps are 17" still today. Better than a lot of x pros that use to juice. I almost died from gall bladder disease. Had 2 open exploritory surgeries and 5 ERCP's through my throat. My abs today are cut and tied to hell and back. I have surgical hernias across my gut. And I feel guilty every day for not training but I just can't muster the fortitude to return. Point being, stay natural. My Gaines have stayed with me through out the years, especially after using Larry's training methods. Good health to all of you.

Larry Scott was one of my favorite bodybuilders and bodybuilding writers. As a kid reading his articles I was often impressed with life skills applications including that of self-esteem. One particular article he wrote about how he took a year off without doing any weight training. He wrote that during that time he found out who his real friends were as he decreased in impressive size and and physique. His fake friends that were just riding on his spotlighted coattail abandoned him. He wrote about how he enjoyed his small circle of genuine friends, but more importantly how he was happy being himself and not because of the aesthetics of his body. Thank you Nick for posting this on Larry Scott, I usually don’t post comments, but I want you to know that I always look forward to seeing what you have posted. Greetings from the boogie down South Bronx.

The reason that he didn't place higher when he made his comeback was that he didn't want to use all of the drugs that the other competitors were taking at the time. He still stuck to the Rheo Blair protein with half and half. He did take some drugs but very minimal, especially with comparison to what is taken today. One of my bodybuilding heroes for sure. That diet from the 1960's is very similar to today's keto diet. Vince was way ahead of his time.

Wow @ that last pic, with Larry in his 60's or even 70's! Larry's arms ARE STILL HUGE!!! I called Larry up in 1986 to ask him some questions about the "Scott Curl", he owned his own gym in Salt Lake City at that time (and where I reached him by telephone). Larry was SUPER nice, very low key and humble; and answered all of the questions I asked of him about the Preacher Curl. This was for a college class. Great guy.

People talk about Larry's biceps and they were fantastic but triceps make up 3/4 of the arms and Larry also had fantastic triceps and forearms. People always seem to overlook the triceps for some strange reason but if u want big arms then work on them triceps. I salute you Larry fantastic arms way ahead of his time.

I wonder how Larry Scott would have done head-to-head against Sergio or a very young Arnold in 1967-1968? With those arms and nobody having huge legs in those days he may have won! Think about it because at the same time Frank Zane came along and beat Arnold in 1968 in Miami, right? Bob Gajda "beat" Sergio for AAU Mr. America in 1966 and Scott did beat Sergio in 1966 as well. The possibilities.
@stevegeorge68807 жыл бұрын
BodybuildingPassion Wick Sergio was much better in 1967 - more complete, better condition - and the consensus is that Scott was gifted the win in 1966 but no one complained because he was very good, very respected, and had announced his retirement. He could have kept going and done well, but he left at just the right time to go out on top.

Thank you, Nick. Larry Scott was one of my favorites, also. To travel from Utah to NY for the paltry sum of $1,000.00 showed dedicattion. However, I think Scott's decision to bow out after 2 Mr. O's had as much to do with his being prophetic. Sergio was on the scene in 67 then Arnold in 68. Giving away a lot of height and weight.
