I took mine (along with the frame and other parts) to a blasting service and had it taken down to bare metal. I then chopped out that portion you were pointing to underneath the battery tray (it looked like swiss cheese), fabricated a new piece out of sheet metal and welded it in. I sprayed down the entire thing with Eastwood Afterblast (an acid solution that eats residual rust and forms a coating) and painted with tractor paint. LMC truck does sell a reproduction core support if it's far beyond salvaging.

How did you like the Afterblast? I have never tried it. I have been happy with all of the Eastwood products so far.

@@C10TruckNerd I love the stuff. A gallon lasts a very long time. It's great for any flash rust you may get after blasting, or for very hard to reach places with light rust. Spray it on, wipe it off with a lint free rag, give it a little time to dry and apply your paint.

@@trentsheteron9240 I have used Rust-oleum Rust Converter for years and have had great luck, both paint and spray on. I have recently been testing the Harbor Freight brand rattle can and have had good results! If I was going for a little higher end build, I like Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Platinum. Just personal preferences! Do you have a brand you like better than another? Thanks for watching!

We're you able to get the rust convertor and refinishing paint on all the interior metal surfaces?

I did my best to get them in all the nooks and crannies. There are some companies that sell their product with a flexible hose to help get into the hard to reach spots.

You can spray a rust converting product in there. Sometimes its best to take an air chisel or cold chisel, separate the welds and open up the piece if you can, treat for rust, apply weld through primer and weld back together. I did that with the trailing arms and parts of the radiator core support.

Chad, where are you from in Kansas? I grew up around Yates Center. Linda, my wife, grew up in Valley Center. The question I have has to do with the difference in headlight buckets. I was looking to change to LED headlights. I have looked at several online. The problem I have is that most I have found say they will not fit since the engine is a 350. My truck is a 69 CST10. I don't understand how the buckets are different from a 305 to a 350. Maybe you can help me.

I’m just outside of Wichita. Not far from Valley. Good question about the lights. Some of these sites are pretty inaccurate with their listings. You were right. The buckets are all the same size no matter what engine it can with as long as it’s a 69-72. 67-68 didn’t have the buckets on the rad supports.
