The funny thing is platoon was made in 1987. So when the dude was complaining about the turkey loaf. This thing was rotting away somewhere already for 19 years then. :P

I was reading comments after the pineapple was dumped on the tray. Looked up and saw the cup of coffee. For a split second, I thought Steve was going to drink the pineapple bits.😂

LOL! that coca powder was made at Cannery Row in Monterey!! my grandma worked there canning peaches a long time before I was born (think 1940's) In '68 her and my very young mom were living in Salinas,CA just up the road,granddad was the trainmaster at Salinas depot.

"What am I doin' with my life" Basically reviewing MREs from the olden time, saying "nice!" When putting the contents onto a tray, enjoying the instant type 1 coffee, smelling and saying "gnarly" and "rancid" at almost everything bad, and eating the rest. Interesting? Yeah.

I'm graduating on a project about the Vietnam war, I read about these rations in Michael Herr's Dispatches for my research so this was real fun to watch, giving me an image of what the foods used to be like :) good work, quite entertaining! greetings from the Netherlands!

Great job on all of your videos man! this content has gotten me inspired! i am eagerly awaiting a 1971 B-1A unit MCI beef W/spiced sauce and a modern day P-38. i wont be eating anything hahah, but if the smokes smell ok im gonna give em a whirl. what a great fairly inexpensive way to own a piece of history, i cant wait to see whats exactly inside. Just discovered your channel. Man, I thought Stuart Ashen was bold in his old food videos, but you definitely take it to a new level! I would think pineapple would be too acidic to allow botulism to form, although bacterial growth of any kind could produce swelling like that, I suppose. But I'm no expert.

At a 4th of July parade, I went as a LRRP and found some Vietnam veterans. I gave them a lima beans and ham C-ration can as a joke and they chucked it.

He would be better off if it did bleed- anytime you get cut or poked with something questionable try to force some blood, it helps clean the wound and hopefully push out some bacteria from the inside.

Dad kept 2-3 cases of these in our storage room when I was a kid. My brother and I would take them to the woods and eat the hell out them! lol Smoke the cigs up, make the cocoa. C rats were always around our military neighborhood in Fayetteville, N.C.

Couldn't resist watching since this was my favorite! The trick to full enjoyment was to save the cheese from another box, melt the cheese and pour it over the loosened turkey. That's living. The P38 was also called a John Wayne and we wore it on our dog tags. Look for a pack of Old Golds for real smoking pleasure. Let me know when you do the c-rat ham and eggs! My mouth is watering...

I always enjoy the clips on the Nam era rations. The one factor than comes to mind in the accessories package it the TP. When ever we would give them the the Vietnamese, they would always roll their cigarettes in them. never mind what the real purpose was!!

Hey, I found your channel through the MRE website, good stuff dude. I think I found myself another hobby, MRE reviewer and collector, lol. By the way, if I was you opening those cans with a P38, I would wear a pair of Mechanicx gloves with the plastic gloves on top. The Mechanicx gloves to protect yourself from cuts and the plastic gloves to protect the Mechanicx's from the rotted food. JMO, keep up the good work!

Well, I’m watching this 8/2020 so worrying about that botulism cut isn’t a concern I gather anymore, thank God! As a nurse I can tell you that botulism infected cuts are not to be taken lightly! When they gave us these on wildfires in the 70's the turkey and pineapple was barely edible. Many times the fruits were fermented or drying up! Nasty! You're a better man than me!
