That is what you call cutting a light as in an 0.500 light. Kudos to the driver of the Red 68 Mustang

Most street legal drag and exhibition style events always use the Sportsman (.500) tree. It’s the NMRA/NHRA and other big league type stuff that typically use the Pro Tree (.400). And I wouldn’t say he cut a .500 lol that’s actually pretty terrible reaction time if someone understands you wrong aka doesn’t spend much time looking at ambers and greens. They’ll just think it took the guy half a second to cut his light lol. Typically we’d say he cut a “double zero” if a guy hit the tree (or arm drop) dead on balls around here, that’s not literal accurate math everytime, but it’s a widely used term.

@@ericmadx3063 you can see the the lights on boards trip first on the 5.0 lane then a split second later the red cars lane lights up board meaning he went through trap second. Common man. Yeah he had a hell of a launch. If both cars were same there red mustang driver would’ve smoked the other guy. But yeah the 5.0 did pass him on the big end.!

As someone that has had foxbodies, tuners, 60s muscle cars and dragged them, I will say that the excitement from ripping a car with no power steering, drum brakes and a nice small block is totally different than a new car.

If I were a somewhat wealthy man in this day & age (and, I'm mature), I'd like to have a '66 fastback Mustang with a 289 tuned to within an inch of its life. An engine really crackling at idle. Four speed, of course. Hell, I wouldn't even abuse the engine, just enjoy those lovely V-8 sounds.

You got it man! I used to own a 65 I bought 27 years ago that i spent 2 years building. Dropped a 351 built to a 357 plus had juice. I was tuning the car for the 3 weakened of the drag 1/8 and the car shifted losing traction mid ways into the wall. Totalled the whole left frame. Made me sick. I ended up selling it for a fraction of the cost of what i had in it. Made me sick I guess we all have regrets. Maybe I should of just kept the car street only and not both haha.

I owned several 289 Mustangs as a young man, including one real fast back K code (aka HIPO). You really could'nt get more than about 335 HP out of them without putting bigger valves in the heads. Back in the 60's the go to were the Chevy 1.90 intake valves with lots of porting work. Then with a max setup you could get around 400 HP.
