watching these old videos is like traveling backwards in time.

Thanks for this video. About to fix the “grunge” area under my control arms on a 67. Exactly the tutorial I needed.

Could you have taken off the tower to repair and then put it back together like you did the torque box? Having the whole on the drivers side makes me think there wasn't much to weld to. Just wondering.
@JoDaddysGarage8 жыл бұрын
I would rather leave the tower in place. The torque box had to come out to do the other repairs, and it would be a lot of unnecessary work to remove the tower. There was plenty of solid metal to weld to, and the patch is solid. It's unfortunate that the design allows for debris to collect in that area.

Ha! Not done, but I got the drivetrain all in place, and it runs. There are other videos showing the progress.

What kind of rust inhibitor did you apply before the weld through primer?
@JoDaddysGarage2 жыл бұрын
I thought I showed it in the video. I’ve used a variety of products. I usually remove as much rust as possible and apply something like naval jelly to dissolve it. But I have also used 3x chemistry. It does a great job as well.

Huh, i never knew that dollop of tar was factory. A late 68 and a 69, the 68 had tar, rust, the 69 didn't. Both cars had been imported to UK.

Hello Barry, I've found myself re-watching your old videos and, as always, I find myself motivated. This video made me think of a West Coast Classic Cougar video that shows some simple upgrades to stiffen up both Mustangs' and Cougars' suspension. Specifically, a plate that WCCC offers (or you can easily make your own) that welds at the base of the shock tower tying it into the frame rail. It's suppose to not only stiffen the frame but helps prevent future cracking of the shock tower. WCCC also has a book that outlines Boss Suspension Mods (which outlines this specific mod) to help improve handling. Placing gussets on the crossmember is suppose to also help. I've linked their video below (If you only want to see what I'm describing jump to 7:30 into the video). Sorry if this is something you're already familiar with. Thanks for all you do with your videos and take care all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5jbfWeuo7mHkJY secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/towerbrace.html?attribs=75 secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/store/p/13273-Reinforcement-Plates-Front-Crossmember-PAIR-New-1967-1970-Mercury-Cougar-/-1967-1970-Ford-Mustang.html?attribs=75
