On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Phoenix AZ on 6-30-18.
We're looking at a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Convertible in Green Paint. This car comes with the factory “Record Player” option.
The car's Owner is Phil Lutfy. Phil’s had this car since 2014. Phil shares this rarely seen optional factory “ Philips ” record player.
Interesting to me that Philip has a “Philips” record player….
ENJOY!

I don't recall hearing about cars having record players. Pretty innovative for the day, and a mini record player at that. It's delightfully old times... love it. I don't know bout anyone else but I really wanna open that box! Fun story, great car... very pretty. Excellent vid, thank you!

Wow! Never knew these 280SLs had a phonograph and a kinder seat option. This man has very good taste--I thought I saw at least three or four total pagoda tops in his garage. This green one seems to have a lot of options. Thank you Lou for the great video, car and fantastic owner!

Incredible beautiful Mercedes "Pagoda", as it is nicknamed in Europe (after the typical shape of the roof of the hardtop; specially when you look from the backside, it resembles the roofline of a Chinese temple)! Color combination is spectacular, as is the overall condition of the car. But indeed, the greatest treat is that Philips car disk player, didn't even know that they existed...(and I'm Dutch, haha)! Can't believe how it eliminates the shocks and movements of the car while playing the disk, fantastic engineering! Thanks so much Lou, for showing us again some incredible wonderful and rare stuff!

Nice car indeed, this gentleman has beautiful and correct Mercedes Benzes! The grey SL on the left (my perspective in the screen) might be a 230 or 250, is that correct? the rims are smaller than the 280 ones.

I think this car defines european Elegance. Relatively small, clean lines, the french Paul Bracq (and hungarn Barenyi for the famous Pagoda roof) did a master piece. And there are lots of details on the inside, the engraved piece of metal, the light touch of wood, the clean dahsboard, and all with the Mercedes top quality. What a wonderful little gem the pagoda is. The disc player is a rarity, I see I'm not the only one surprised by this super rare and expensive option. another example of this disc player I know in a european car is a Maserati 5000 GT for the Aga Khan by Frua. img.over-blog-kiwi.com/1/40/60/51/20151225/ob_f89e79_maserati-5000-gt-frua-coupe-1962-114.jpg Congratulations to the collector for this fabulous collection and ot you for sharing.

The green exterior makes this car! Mercedes Benz was known for the more muted colors; red, black, silver and maybe white. But green?? I believe this color is called petrol blue-green but don't quote me on it. I know that because Mercedes Benz offered this color in rare numbers on its later cars throughout the 1980's and early 90's. You almost never see it, but when you do, it makes you stop and stare. The old man even stated he bought the car because of the color combination. I love the close up of the 45rpm record player too. My father had an Oldsmobile 98 convertible with the optional 45 record player installed so I know how rare those units are to come across and own. This gentleman has a TON of money in these Mercedes Benzs in his collection! Must be nice! lol

There were many Mercedes cars from the sixties painted in green. I had two Mercedes 250SEs, one a coupe and the other a convertible, both painted in different shades of dark green with the tan leather interior. Nice combo.

SUPPPPPERRRRRBBBBB!!!!!! I miss that car.... That injection pump. (If you see, is fuel injection mecanical system). It has a electrical cold start injector valve. THE HOOD IS OF ALUMINUM. You can see the valve of fast Idle. The link gage, it always was difucult to adjust. I remember.....Transmission has only 3 gears. Nice car.

FYI, more than a "vent", the little chrome door you were opening & closing on the dash is actually an early version of a side window defroster. When opened with the windshield defroster turned on, it will defrost the side door window.
