You know, I didn’t even realise that you even had Renaults in the States! I own a R16 1967, and I’ve had it for 22years! Glad to see that you guys over the pond like the quirky, unconventional classic !

For me the best of Renault ever existed.

Excellent! My friend / classmate’s family had a 1971 R16 manual (with air conditioning) in 1970s NE Ohio USA. It was a terrific car! Great fuel economy, comfortable, reliable (yes it was!), handled well compared to large domestic cars, and you could transport the most unlikely large or oddly shaped items in them. Very well designed. That R16 handily dealt with the two worst winters in recorded history for our area, particularly winter of 1977-78. It always started in the cold, even at -18°F (≈-27°C)! Some mornings it was one of the few cars rolling through the deeply snow covered streets. We were all very impressed by it. Rust was its downfall by about 1980 but that was commonplace at the time across brands. No protection against the ravages of road salt. I had only one chance to drive it after getting my driver’s license in 1979 and it was quite a revelation to me. I remember that drive vividly to this day. I’ve only ever seen 2 R16s in my area, my friends’ and one that belonged to a beloved local radio personality. Very rare here. And only sighted one R17 Gordini locally, in Cleveland’s university circle in summer of … 1981

My late uncle had a 1971 royal blue 16TS from about 1982 - 87. This video brings back memories, it was a very comfortable road trip car

My first car in 1987 was a "76 model 16TS and I used to have competitions with my mates as to who's car could go over the 20kph speed humps faster. The Renault was amazing but we stop doing it when a friend crashed his Ford Falcon trying to going over them at over 100kph, the same speed the Renault could do without raising a sweat. I've got great memories of that old car.

Looks like a great car for highway travel , you might get hypnotized by the sweet hum of that engine sound 😂

@@robertamoyaw8812 A few months after buying it my best mate and I traveled from Melbourne to Cairns and back during our 4 week holiday break. It was the middle of summer and we saw so many cars pulled off the road overheating while the ol'16 never missed a beat. It was a great adventure in so many ways and it seems like yesterday.😁

My dad had a 16TS when we lived in the UK in the late 1960s. Beautiful car with plenty of pep, although the engine tended to overheat easily. Wish I could find one.

That transmission must have some amazing synchros to be able to just drop it into 1st gear while you're still moving like that!

Lovely, but do replace the noisy windscreen rubbers, as will eventually scar the glass.

Tourisiane Speciale (sp?) I remember the adjustable headlights with skimpy white plastic levers. Dad towed a wayfarer. 72 cream TS. When dad wasn't towing and only 11-year-old me. He'd floor it and work it thru the gears. Yours a Saint Bruno Quebec likely one of 1348.
