These compete (with the Rebel Machine), for my all-time favorite muscle car. This was my dream car back in the 70's, when I was in my teens. Too rare, even then. AMC did not have the brand cache' of the big three. Such a shame, as they built excellent cars. Very competitive.

@@loucostabile hi Lou. I would like your opinion. I have a 1969 Amc AMX 390 x-code AT AIR PS PB GO pack and group 19 parts installed including intake. All numbers match including the 1969 block. It was hunter green with white stripes. It's now red. I like the red but should I spend the extra money to paint it the orginal color? She also has 1970 working cowl hood, which keeps it cool in the florida heat. Should I keep it or buy a fiberglass 69 hood. 69 medal hoods are impossible to find. Thanks NEAL
@loucostabile5 жыл бұрын
Hi Neal, Regarding original paint or red, and which hood? My answer may sound simple, but I do what makes me happy. If you like the car in red, keep it red. If you what makes you happy is bring it back to stock, I'd do that. I like stock, as it gives me and idea of what the Designer and Engineers of that time period the car was built were thinking, Lou
@b.neallee70425 жыл бұрын
You are right. If hunter green was good enough for Steve McQueen it's good enough for me. Lol. Keep up the good work. AMX are finally getting the respect and money they deserve. I think they are under rated piece of American car history. Only took 50 years to figure that out. Lol take care Neal

AMC did not "have to " use components from other manufactures, AMC CHOSE TO buy some already engineered components to save costs, like the full sized ford products with General Motors steering gear setups. Why is this such an issue with everyone?

The 1970 Red/White/Blue factory painted Javelins that he mentioned were a special, limited to 100 produced, version called the "Trans Am package," aka the Trans Am Javelin. The 2,501 (not 2,500) Javelins that he confused with the Trans Am Javelins were the Mark Donohue Package Javelins. Mark Donohue Javelins were not painted Red/White/Blue from the factory, ever.

I am the original owner of a 1972 Javelin AMX and take issue with some of the restoration mistakes evident on this car. Where's the AMC decal for the passenger side shock tower, master cyl and cover not painted black, and why for God's sake is the coolant warning label put on the center hood support? The '71 - '74 cars had them all on the driver's side radiator shield, just to name a few. Do it right or not at all.
