This vehicle brought me back to my senior year, 1979. I had the same two-tone color combo, with a light brown interior. A real chic magnet back in the day. Thanks for the memories guys!!

Had a '72 sj. First car. I was 16. Managed to spin the 455s crank bearing within the first 6 months of ownership! Put in a '68 ram air 400. Bought the motor for 300.00! This was in 1980. Those engines were still plentiful. I beat the hell out that car! Camaros and Firebirds were no match. How I miss those times! God Bless

I was selling Pontiacs in '71 & '72. The brochure for these would make you drool. They had blueprinted engine, beefed up turbo 400 trans, heavy suspension, and lots of other gee whiz stuff. Never saw the actual car, but we sold a lot of Grand Villes to folks who wanted a beautiful family car.

Once again Lou, your love for these fine classics bring my wonderful memories back! I had a '72 model J that I bought of my parents...had it a week and got t-boned in a Kmart parking lot, needless to say I was sick! What's funny is I had the same starter issues also, Pontiacs was famous for that when the engines got hot! Thanks again for your awesome videos I know you work hard to share these with us! You are greatly appreciated!

OMG ! The Holy Grail !! Love GP's... My 2nd car at 16 years of age was a 1969 GP model J. Presidential blue with super cool black vinyl interior and top. Today it remains my all time favorite car ! It was luxurious and very fast ! And I had SOOOO much fun in it ! I have chewed up some muscle cars on Lake Street ( Minneapolis ) in the day with it as well. Subsequently I had 2 - 1972's , I have a great appreciation for the GO's.

Love this car. I had a white model SJ that I sold a few years ago. It was my father’s bought new in 1972. I sold it with the original silver honeycomb wheels as well. It had all the power options, an 8-track going into the back seat and a power truck button in the glove box as well. The clock was the only thing that didn’t work and the deep dish ash tray was not original as someone stole it when they stole the change.

Not only that. It's a shame how they slowly killed Pointiac over the course of the 28 years that started with the end of their own V8s then the Fiero compromise, then them just being re-badged Chevys. They tried so hard to stay a performance brand. They carried the big V8s all the way to 1979 when all the others had given up. Then they tried turbos when they lost the big motors. They wanted the Fiero to be a high performance sporty compact. But GM was afraid for Corvette sales. They were starved out so Chevy could be the great one. The GTO was their last shot. And almost none of it was Pontiac :( R.I.P. Poncho

Pontiac was set to overtake Chevrolet in the late 50's and early 60's but the powers that be were having no part of that. They handcuffed John DeLorean one of the more brilliant men to ever be in the auto game. GM could have made a retro looking GTO when they came out with that joke of a car in 2004. A GTO looking like a 1969 Judge or maybe a 1965 model Goat.
@dansmusic5749
@dansmusic5749 4 жыл бұрын
@@331Grabber This the sad story. GM wanted Chevy to have nearly all the glory. The 455SD was nearly stillborn. The Ram Air V WAS still born. Did you know that Pontiac produced a 303 CID version of the Ram Air V? And did you know that Pontiac produced a 427 that had overhead cams and was one of the best looking engines I have ever seen? So much they tried was stopped by GM management to keep the brand behind Chevy.

Pontiac was always one of my favorite manufacturers. Pontiac built the 1961-63 421 Super Duty Catalina's which we're factory drag racers and they built the coolest muscle cars out of any of the GM divisions(64-72 GTO, 67-74 Firebird/Trans Am) and we're the only manufacturer still building cool cars in the late 70's gas crunch era(77 Can Am, 75-78 Trans Am 400/4 speed) GM should've axed Buick instead of Pontiac.....even though I love the 70-72 Buick GS/GSX and the 80s Grand National/GNX. Didn't need another luxury car manufacturer when they already had Cadillac

1 of only 60 made. Big torque - 380 ft. lbs. net. The standard bumper jacks with the little slots in the bumper were a disaster. Very easy to either bend the little tab on the jack, mangle the slot in the bumper or both. And that's also were rust would start.

The comment from the owner "The few times I've driven it..." what? That is a shame. Too many times I've heard "It's just too nice to drive" from muscle car owners at shows. That does it, I am NEVER restoring my car, I buzz through two tanks of gas every week when weather is nice...10's of thousands of miles of quality seat time over the last 7 years. Garage queens are just plain wrong in my view....What a waste. It is about the experience, not preserving a car....Drive em!

It's a shame that this car spends its life on a trailer or in a climate controlled building. Cars are meant to be driven, regardless of their "pedigree" or rarity. If Jay Leno, who owns six-figure value cars can drive them on a regular basis, this car deserves to be out on the road enjoying the landscape. Hate if you want but as a car enthusiast and gearhead? I would much rather see this car get some use, instead of being left to look at occasionally.
