Thanks for finding good in MPC kits. That is a perfect color for this year GTO. Three of my favorite 60's/70's cars are the 68-72 GTO, the 71-73 Cougar, and the 69-72 Grand Prix. If it were not for MPC no kits of these cars would exist. I have the street customs version of this GTO and the roof molding is there on this version of the kit. My thought's are this kit is originating from 1968 with the all new 68 GTO. With the body being updated each year and some tweaking of the stock exhaust system and decals. This kit is showing it's age. But, as you show, still builds into a very accurate 72 with a little modeling skill and some knowledge of the car. Excellent looking replica of an iconic car.

How many models never got finished because the builder didn't like how his paint turned out... is a bunch! I find it funny the remarks about MPC being crude or whatever. As a kid/new builder I loved em cause they were easy/quick builds for a decent looking model. There's a place for everyrhing. Your wet sanding is what helped your shine as much as anything. Hardener(not using it 2nd coat) may have helped it too ... giving it a little extra time to lay down before it tacked. Looks great! Thanks for sharing

MPC is challenging but if you hang in there, you can turn them into a beautiful model. I've done two of these and both after a lot of fitting and fabrication, turned out great. The main issue is the bumper is too wide and has no area to attach. The extension on the chassis has to be adjusted because it looks like it was never actually meant for that body. It may have come from the 1967 GTO model originally, as AMT and MPC swapped molds so I'm told. Both of these have almost no drip rails and you are right that because the molds are well used, the detail is slowly disappearing. If I find another kit, I'll swap in an Olds chassis from Revell and scratch build the drip rails. You're build is going great, can't wait to see it together.

Nice work man. I've built this one box stock to match the box build . I painted it with testors firery orange lacquer topped in testors high gloss clear enamel . Trim the rear tail panel off the chassis plate behind the gas tank to make it fit the 72 body. There's a molded in cut line on the top side . This kit shares the same interior and chassis ,engine and wheels as the mpc 67 gto kit, which is longer . Check your wheelbase too. I had to re locate my front mounting holes on the wheels. Chassis fit is tricky.. The rear bumper is too wide. I narrowed mine by cutting it in the middle and removing material there to narrow . The licence plate will hide most of the join seam.

Great channel! I love the train in the background. We have a movie theatre in my area that is built next to an express freight rail line. I've been in the theatre watching a movie and the projectionist had to pause the movie while an express was going by, whistle blowing and vibrating the entire theatre. So neat!!! It reminded me of a scene from My Cousin Vinnie. :-{D Anyway...keep up the great channel bro. I love your channel.

I have that same kit, if you're interested in why the kit is molded in orange, it's because in 72, they had a promo model in that same color, it's a rarity, but if you want to leave it in that color & be somewhat close, that's fine, otherwise, when I end up building mine, it'll be a cool car with the honeycomb wheels & the white letter tires from one of the AMT wheel & tire combos

Great paint. I’ve never built this ‘72 but I’m working on the ‘70 this kit was based on, rear valance takes a bit of effort to get it to fit and you’ll want to check all four wheels are centred in the wheel wells, you might find you want to push them outward toward the edge of the body too. Look forward to seeing it.

Wow. That train guy is really horn happy. lol And awesome paint btw. Wish mine came out that well. lol The last MPC 72 GTO I had, I bought it because it has a vague resemblance to an Australian HQ Holden Coupe. Although the GTO is longer, and wider I think. Got it partly converted. And that was when I got my first 3D printer, and started printing the models from the game Forza Horizon 4. At least I think it was 4. Might have been 3. I dunno. Never actually played it. Just downloaded the Aussie Fords, and Holdens. After that. I left it by the way side, and eventually chucked it. Whoa. That got off track. Back on topic. I found the MPC, even though I butchered it. Pretty enjoyable, and good. Too bad I'd gone to turn it back. :/

A simple kit but an accurate body that makes it real nice. The old promo style kits always had accurate body curves and shapes. The newer kits… not so much: Revell 69 Charger with to low roof, 1970 Torino with wrong rear fenders, 1971 Cuda that is a serious miss… the Tamiya Cobra R….
