Hi. I have a 1977 CJ7 and an AMC20 rear differential (i think).. My question is: Is the Axle Pinion Seal the only seal that is located there.?? I have noticed my rear differential seems to be weeping fluid from around that spot and slowly dripping down the bottomside of the differential - so I was going to try to Correct the seal from allowing the fluid to weep outside.

So being an AMC 20, I believe the oil seal is almost exactly the same as the one in my video. I haven't run the numbers to verify but it shouldn't be like a 9" Ford axle that has the removable pinion bearings which has it's own gasket. You probably just have 80/90 running out of the pinion area. Pay attention to the sealing surface of the yoke. You want to make sure that there isn't a groove in it or a bearing buddy may be required. Thanks for watching!

put some silicone gasket sealer on the splines before you put the yoke back on. Mark every thing before you take it apart. exmp. driveshaft to yoke, yoke to housing. Mark the threads and the nut.

I am sorry as I missed your question. I hope you were able to locate the p/n

Yes! I got it all taken care of that day. I may or may not have followed your advice to avoid a screwdriver and hammer 😅 but it’s all done and sealed up tight now so it’s okay!

What size of socket uyou used
@wrenchingwithrob60013 жыл бұрын
Can't remember the size but I think it may have been around 7/8" or 1". Remember to remove all of the dirt and yuck in the yoke. Also, remove the cotter pin and it's rements. All of the above will gum up whatever socket you use and make you think you have the right one and it will slip or round the corners of the nut.
