I've been searching for a video like this for some time now!!!! I have an older Evinrude (mid/late 70's) that I absolutely can not get to idle properly. I'm thinking I may even have a link or a spring missing. I know the spring from the choke to the power head is stretched and possibly not working properly. Thank you so much for this and just the good images as well to compare. Any tips would be appreciated.

Brandon, I hope you find this I’m struggling I took the screw off for the manual choke and being the screw is a black extra piece. I did not see how it is supposed to be connected do you happen to have a picture of that and what’s it’s supposed to look like?

First off great video, I have a 1974 50hp evinrude lark looks exactly like this one . My question is I think I'm missing something cause the shit cable end goes on and held on with a nylon nut but nothing for throttle cable end it just pops off the little nipple how do I keep it on? Any help would be much appreciated 🙏 part numbers or instructions, thanks in advance!!

It's actually supposed to have a clip on the end of the cable. If you watch my video on connecting shift / throttle cables on my 1958 Evinrude, you can see it there. I'll dig you up a part number in the morning.

I’ve got a ‘74 50hp Johnson... I was able to get it started but it would only run for about four seconds before shutting off... thinking it’s something with the carb but any chance it could be something else?

Mine does the same, come to find out I was missing the retainer piece on the idle screw found in front of the carb right above the intake hole. Hard to find the part in my experience so I custom made a piece to push against with the carb cover holding it in place while still allowing air in. So far so good. What was happening was without the retainer piece my idle screw would slowly turn all the way in tight when motor is running and vibrating, ps: my motor only starts and idles well at 2 full turns out from the tight position of the idle screw.

@@BrandonsGarage I'm not sure the guy I work with is supposed to come look at it for me im just a roofer never been much of a wrench turner

thanks for vid. got 60hp with tripple carb. thinking of cleaning up. did you remove jets etc or simply just soak or spray carb cleaner at them? Can the floats just be reused after cleaning. Is there a point the floats need to be replaced? Thanks
@mikekmalick3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't look like you are going to get an answer from this guy. It looks like he used his old gaskets and floats. My recommendation is to get a carb kit and with the kit you should get new gaskets, needle valve, float and pin. The jets can be cleaned and reused for they are just a brass orifice. Im sure you got an answer by now but couldn't help myself.

Those are a little different than my 73 50 Evinrude, mine have low-speed adjustment screws coming out the front of them.
@BrandonsGarage3 жыл бұрын
manual start motor? also, I think they sold and adjustable add-on kit for this
@scottcoleman2843 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonsGarage it's an electric start and electric choke, but you may be right about it being an add-on because it also has a manual choke on the cowl which connects to the carbs and functions but also has an idle adjustment knob in the cowl that is just a knob, it doesn't go to anything.
@scottcoleman2843 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonsGarage It just dawned on me that the adjustment knob I was referring to may possibly be a knob that pulls out of the cowl to use on the low-speed airscrews. The screws have knurling on them for a knob, but also have a slot for a flathead screwdriver. Also, the airbox has two removable black plugs to access the screws.
