1976 55 evinrude water pump replacement

For everyone trying to get the lower unit back on and cant get the shifting rod hole to line up w the pin i figured it out, adust the throttle either in forward or reverse till it lines up. Took me hours to figure that out

Hey brother I tell you what happened the tube you let the tubes flip off that goes up to the engine and it's not peeing it's got a little hole up there at the engine and it's supposed to pee water but you accidentally let your tube water tube that goes up to the engine slip out saying that's reason you're you're getting all the water coming out of the bottom not at the top good luck with it brother have a blessed day and be safe 🙏

The stand or water pipe is not into the power head, from the water pump. so its not pumping into and cooling the motor. It just spilling out, Above the foot. Will burn your motor up. That is way none is coming out of the exit hole where is is supposed to

Hey great cleat vid! Just did one on a 1982 60hp... same lower unit and the baffling thing is there is no mention of that base gasket even in the service manual! But i agree... there has to be one under the baseplate. the other models i've worked on do it this way as well.... and all call for gasket sealing compound both sides. the guy had the old gasket on top.... which nudged the 0-ring out of the way. not good!

The pipe coming from the water pump you don't have it lined up in the head so it will burn the motor up

I have a 70s Evinrude 55 that I can’t get the lower unit off. I’m told the drive shaft is stuck in the power head. Any tips tricks ? Also the water for my unit come out a piss hole below the starter I believe there’s a rubber seal on the lower unit maybe for the water ?

I think you put the gasket on the wrong side of the plate and that why it was leaking

The bottom of the plate gets a paper gasket and the top gets a rubber gasket if you buy a new housing like I did if you're just replacing the water pump impeller and have the old housing you will need to get to paper gaskets one for the bottom one for the top

No that shouldn't be leaking water out of the bottom you have a small pass hose at the back of the motor thar t pee out the water

have you found an answer to this yet? mine has a tell tale and the water is not coming out of it. the water comes out of mine exactly like it comes out of the motor at the end of this video

It should come out of 2 vertical slots at the upper rear below the motor head, this vid didn't show that but sometimes it takes time to fill up and start pouring out.

@@jordanmacnutt3960 your tell tale could be clogged up, try using a paper clip to clean the nozzle out, if that dont work pull it off and the hose, run the engine in water if waters comming out of the tell tale on the engine you simply have clogged hose and nozzle

Might be that these old motors blow water out the small exhaust hole when the t-stat open. Have a 75 Johnson 85hp.

It is super common the bottom do not made up perfectly you can get a gasket but is not necessary

​@@fixitwithbiskit i just bought a boat with same motor, its was sitting for a few years but i got it started and it runs great but unlike this video my motor has a tell tale and the water is not coming out of it. water comes out of mine the same way it comes out of the motor in the end of this video. I have the boat in my driveway and im using muffs i wonder if the water would make its way out of the tell tale if i submerged the whole leg under water instead of using the muffs? or maybe i need a new impeller/ water pump . any help would be greatly appreciated.
