I learned how to drive at 16 in this car..My dad changed engines and kept the body and had it painted..he kept this car for 14 years.. he traded it in 1988..my mother cried..she hated to see it go..but it was time..when she left the yard that morning..she was clean as the state board of health and still running..dad just wanted an upgrade..miss this car man..classic..Buick made something when they made the Buick Electra 225

This is the very last of General Motors at its peak IMHO. It all went downhill from here, the downsized ‘77 onwards might have had the same touches on the inside, but could never truly replace these 1971-76 B-bodies in terms of grace and majestic luxury!

This was the best of GM and perhaps the best luxury car in 1975-76. We had one when I was a kid. Many people believe the ride was smoother than a 76 Caddy. Basically the Electra, Olds 98 and the Cadillac DeVille were built alike in 73-76. The 76 Buick Electra Limited was the car to own if one was too young ( 30-45 year olds) for the stereotype of the "old rich man's Cadillac." This was pure Cadillac luxury in a Buick.
@tyler26107 жыл бұрын
I honestly doubt many people who bought these new were much younger than 50. Buick was a mature man's car even in '76.
@mhyatt822627 жыл бұрын
tyler2610 I was speaking from personal experience of the time frame. My father drove Ford's until these heavy Buick came around in the late 1960's. He definitely loved the Buick. He started with a 69 LaSabre and after that 1972, 1974 LaSabre. Then came this 1976 Electra Park Avenue when he was 37 years old.

My dad was 36 when he bought this car new in 76'. We had a white with white vinyl top and red leather seats. It didn't have the nice wheels like this one but had the wheel covers with the large caps in the middle of the wheel cover. It was a nice car.

My 1st brand new car, a 2dr Landau 225. Same color combo, 'cept my interior was vinyl, power driver seat. Astroroof, maroon triple pin stripes, & the bigger sidewalls from UNIROYALS. Exchange those crappy tires for a larger size Vogue tyres (LR70-15). Talk about improving an awesome ride even better. This was the last of the REAL BUICKS. After that they shared engines from other divisions. When I traded it in late '82, for an 83 Riviera, I missed the power (307cid 4bbl Olds)I got the fwd Riviera because the lighter rear wheel drive didn't have the lbs. like the last land yachts to get you securely through. I miss them . I imagine with today's technology what would become of these Beauties. They were great long distance travelers & in a pinch you can squeeze in more than 6ppl. The trunk was bigger than some closets. The way of the dinosaurs, I guess. Now it's SUVs. I got every option that I wanted &/or afford. A tick over $9k. Boy, did I haggle for the luxo land Yacht. Limited slip was inexpensive, same with the auto ride height. I,til this day couldn't haggle like in those days after the '73 embargo, & LARGE CARS.

My old man had a car like this. His was a candy walnut paint and a white top. I believe he had it painted like that. It was the first car I ever drove and I was 14 yes old. I want one just like that but not enough garage space right now for it. I remember being at the car wash with my dad and him telling me to move it into the car wash stall. I gave it too much gas and almost smashed the bumper. That's how much power the car had.

GM's last of Buick Pure luxury of the day before the down sizing, interior door lights, real chrome bumpers, power windows, seats, climate control, power brakes and steering and bumper to bumper chrome. Well if enough of us real car buyers would Just boycott the hell out of all auto manufacturers until they start back building real cars and trucks with Class and style built to last like they used to without all the crappy computers and electronics, and make them stop being so dam greedy and make them bring those prices down to a place where the average person can afford to buy a new car or truck and doesn't have to finance the dam car or truck for almost 10 years! Don't be angry at me...but this is really mostly our fault because if we didn't line up to buy their trash cans on wheels and pay the ridiculous amounts money for the trash cans on wheels they have been selling to us.....they would not even attempt or try to build let alone sell us the crap. if only we all stood together and refused to buy their crap! We the car and truck buying people/Customer's have all the power to make them build the cars and trucks that we want at the prices we want. The demand for better quality better built cars and trucks at a reasonable price would in itself create much more jobs building the cars and trucks due to the fact that so many more people would be able to afford to buy them..and another thing we should have never allowed our lumber and steel mills to shut down and move to other countries and thereby placing us at the mercy of other countries Just to buy from them at a lower price and in the process put countless men and women out of work in the end costing us much more money than any perceived savings from buying from other countries. That is beyond insane...we need to stop this madness and get it together quickly.

That along with some work on the heads. What get you about 100 more some horsepower. And maybe about 5 more mpg on the highway! If you stay out off the secondaries on the quadrajet.
