When Keegan left it was very hard to imagine anyone filling his boots. Kenny came in and took LFC to another level, one of the best signings we ever made. Thank you Bob/Kenny for making an 11 year old boy very happy. YNWA.

Yeah I was around that age and living in Melbourne, my mum's from St Helens so we went over there a couple of times,76 and 79/80 saw Liverpool playipswich at Anfield in 76 and then got to watch a couple of games from the kop in the 79 /80 season, when I was about 15 I idolized Dalglish, got quite a lot of autographs from that era too.fair- dinkum I felt like I was in heaven. I always thought of Bob Paisley as a kindly Uncle figure and what a manager he was. @@nigelhammond8516 Liverpool played Red Star Begrade and were played off the pitch about 1970. Immediately after the game the bootroom, where Bob was the leader, decided the English game would never bring European success, decided there and then to change playing style. We played Leeds at Elland Road and Revie was shocked at how easy Liverpool won. It was the passing game which achieved such success and was subsequently copied by Barcelona. Turning Ray Kennedy from centre fwd to an elegant midfielder. Signing Kenny, Sou etc etc etc. The guy was a true genius

@@brucekilby9957 Keegan based on pure ability. But Kenny based on a combination of everything - dedication, loyalty, ability, etc. Similar to the Rooney/Ronaldo debate at Man Utd - Ronaldo is clearly the all round better footballer & anyone would obviously rather have him in their team. But Wayne’s achievements with the club far outweigh the few years Ronaldo was at United before leaving for Madrid. Similar to Keegan going to Hamburg - he knew he couldn’t win Balon Dor’s at Liverpool because at the time the Bundesliga was miles out in front as the top league.

I really like the way he answers the question about the level of the other Scottish teams. Of course the standard is better in England but every time one of those teams play against Celtic or Rangers it is a cup final to them and a real chance for one of those players to change their career’s or lives if they put on a show! Stuart Armstrong was a decent player at Dundee United and put in a few good performances in against Celtic, then got a massive move to Celtic and now plays in the premier league for Southampton. Just an example of the mentality the players have when playing against Celtic and Rangers.

@@grahamburke2939 Hearts had one good season in the 80's, they were mainly a yo-yo Club, as were Hibs. A lot of your 'smaller' teams had good sides in the 80's, the likes of St Mirren, Morton, Dumbarton, Dunfermline... The league was overall stronger in the 80's, no question of that, there was always 3, or 4 teams within touching distance of the title. Looking at 1982-83, when Dundee Utd won it, Celtic finished 2nd, one point behind them, and Aberdeen finished 3rd, level on points with Celtic. We'll never see a finish like that to the top flight in Scotland again.

Nobody could replace Keegan’s footballing ability at that time except unobtainable players like Best, Eusebio, or Cruyff. They knew they had to go & find the next best, and they got pretty close with Kenny. Never had the raw ability that Keegan had but was the perfect fit for Liverpool, incredible footballer but more importantly fiercely loyal to Liverpool. Keegan was simply too good to stay & had outgrown the club at the time. Had he known what Liverpool would achieve within the next few years he may have stayed. But at the time the Bundesliga was way out in front as the top league - and Kevin knew if he was to put himself in the bracket of Cruyff, Best, Eusebio, etc - then he had to leave to win Balon D’ors - and fair play to him he went and did that twice. Shows you just how strong a player & character Kenny was to fill the hole left by a superstar like Keegan. It’s like United trying to sign a player after Ronaldo left United.

Don't forget all the foreign managers today too! The game back then was maybe not as skilfull, the pitches terrible, the grounds modest, but somehow I miss those days. English clubs now are just toys or advertisments for Saudi rich investors who care nothing for the game.
