I really like the way he answers the question about the level of the other Scottish teams. Of course the standard is better in England but every time one of those teams play against Celtic or Rangers it is a cup final to them and a real chance for one of those players to change their career’s or lives if they put on a show! Stuart Armstrong was a decent player at Dundee United and put in a few good performances in against Celtic, then got a massive move to Celtic and now plays in the premier league for Southampton. The league was overall stronger in the 80's, no question of that, there was always 3, or 4 teams within touching distance of the title. Nobody could replace Keegan’s footballing ability at that time except unobtainable players like Best, Eusebio, or Cruyff. They knew they had to go & find the next best, and they got pretty close with Kenny. Never had the raw ability that Keegan had but was the perfect fit for Liverpool, incredible footballer but more importantly fiercely loyal to Liverpool. Keegan was simply too good to stay & had outgrown the club at the time. Had he known what Liverpool would achieve within the next few years he may have stayed. But at the time the Bundesliga was way out in front as the top league - and Kevin knew if he was to put himself in the bracket of Cruyff, Best, Eusebio, etc - then he had to leave to win Balon D’ors - and fair play to him he went and did that twice. Shows you just how strong a player & character Kenny was to fill the hole left by a superstar like Keegan. It’s like United trying to sign a player after Ronaldo left United.
