1977 Mercury Cougar XR-7 - with Farrah Fawcett-Majors (Commercial, 1976)

Here's a commercial for the 1977 Mercury Cougar XR-7 featuring the then - Farrah Fawcett-Majors, aired just six days after the premiere of a new series that she would co-star in, Charlie's Angels, which would rocket her to superstardom (and make a picture of her in a red swimsuit a feature of many a hot-blooded young male's walls and/or T-shirt).
This version of this veritable vehicle was slated to be unveiled Friday, October 1st, and would be joined by companion models such as Mercury Cougar Brougham (4-door sedan), 2-door hard top, and Villager station wagon.
Bonus: Followed by animated ABC ID with lower-third local station ID (from WLS Channel 7).
"Hey! You wanna see my XR-7 . . . more of a Cougar than any Cougar before . . . "
This aired on local Chicago TV on Tuesday, September 28th 1976 within the 7:30pm to 8:00pm timeframe.

My mom and dad had the 4 door Brougham model. My folks let me pick the color and the wheel covers. I chose chocolate brown with wire caps. It was a beautiful car, always getting compliments. I was given the car when it was 7 years old. Had I known it would become such a rare Mercury, I might have tried to keep it.

@@iakona23 It was typical during that era for the American auto companies to sponsor TV shows. Barnaby Jones was a TV show of that time that featured a lot of big Fords, Mercurys, and Lincolns. Cheryl Ladd was in a cool commercial for the 1978 Ford Thunderbird.

Farrah didn't do anymore Cougar ads or promotional appearances after 1977. The model Cheryl Tiegs replaced her the following year. Also, FoMoCo stopped using the big cat after some stupid kid teased one and was attacked.
