Seriously, the Connie Celica saga, from it's beginning days all those years ago, through the end of this current build, will probably become one of *THE* go-to build series for anyone looking to do their own 1st gen Celica project. Make us all proud, fellas! But also, what no one thinks about in a build like this: being nickel and dimed to death on all the small fixtures, clips, fittings, etc..... My wallet is groaning as I watch this!

I'm planning on doing a very similar engine build in my Altezza so the revamp of Connie is proving to be helpful. I'll be using the same Panic 52mm ITBs. Aiming for 250 whp with 12.5:1 compression pistons revving to 9k.

So good to see you sticking with a performance inline 4 on this build! Those old Celicas have always been super cool and now that they're rare, putting a V-8 in one (like another unnamed builder on YT) is IMO cliche and just a really awful idea. Love this car! I remember in the early 70's Toyota had a magazine ad showing a blue/white Celica race car with fender bulges and wide 13 inch tires running through a corner. The image is still in my mind!

I really am delighted to watch this build of the Celica from this time! Thank you. I'm not sure if they've counted the days it took to get the car to the place it is at in this video which would have been quite a few I'd imagine. Projects don't begin when the car is stripped and prepped for an engine and almost ready for paint. But I'm sure they know all that.Edit: I also would think they know they're starting with a car they already had worked on and that being it isn't plagued by major rusty bolts and corrosion. Although they've done plenty of work on those types of cars no doubt. LOL.

Best to wait an hour, depends on the formula but when I used Ultra black says wait an hour before going full torque, just get it up evenly loose before that. Best seal: Clean surface & any potential drips that could happen while installing & set time (carb cleaner works well and a rag, double check before install that the gasket surface is not oily after you let it drip for a day or so & wipe any drips that have formed that could drip onto the pan bead, bead like shown, put a little on the outside of the bolt holes to give the bolts more resistance during torque to prevent low spots on gasket, tighten down hand tight evenly cross pattern, wait 1 hr then torque specs, don't put oil in it for 48 to 72 hrs if you can help it 24hr minimum wait. In cold temps you may not want to do this at all but if you do you might have to wait even longer than that but put a heater of some sort safely near it to get it to set faster. Carb cleaner also remove the old FIPG pretty well.

This car is super nice. Something else that I liked was that you skipped the "coming up" teaser at the beginning and got right to it. I felt for a couple of episodes that the "coming up" didn't really tell me much about exactly what was happening. I was skipping that bit in other episodes. Not sure if others felt the same way ...

There will be more goo on the inside of the oil pan than what you squeezed out on the outside. Just like what you see inside the intake runners. That sealant will eventually fall off and block the pickup in the sump. 3mm? How about 1? If I were you, I'd do that again.

Think I'll keep the AE111 ITBs because I have fantasies of building an AE82 FX16 GTS one of these days. We used an AW11 pedal but the angle the pedal face sits at is a bit too upwards compared to the brake pedal, so the homey Joshiroku is sending up an AE86 pedal since that'll match the angle of the Celica brake and clutch pedals better according to Beams Celica guru Matt Panic.
