Watching this back in 82 is what made me join a snooker club, in 86 I was old enough to order alcohol at the bar, many nights spent at the bar, playing snooker and feeding my wages into the club slot machines. No, I was useless at the game, but I enjoyed the environment, the family atmosphere, twice a week my friends and I would stay until the small hours of the morning or until the owners kicked us out . That was what it was like in the 80’s. It’s all a bit sterilised and commercial now. RIP Alex, you gave me and many other youngsters an outlet and something to belong to. You will never know how you helped me and others like me. Legend 😎

Absolutely, very very natural player as well. Understandably outshone in natural ability by dear Alex (who isn't! Some might say Ronnie...I'd beg to differ), but Reardon is an extremely gifted player, and a wonderful man. I have to admit as a late Gen Xer I really didn't have the opportunity to see him compete. But I did see him numerous times on Big Break, as well as the odd clip otherwise. Outstanding, very quick both in general play and in intelligent play. Frankly an extremely terrific Snooker player, understandable that he won six World Championship titles. Like you, I'd LAP UP more video's of Reardon, I guess the era in which he was in his prime would be considered _Lost Media_ 😕.Let us hope some of it at least resurfaces eventually. Surely the Beeb must have _some_ footage in its dusty vaults?

That first red for the black. Perfect and in those days 1. Nobody else could have done it and 2. Nobody else would have seen it never mind try it. Yes he was 2 frames up at 17-15 but that is not a luxury against Ray Readon who beat him in '76. Also it is still the highest break of a final frame in the WSC even today.

Alex was an artist Reminds me of a troubled poet of something Wild at times and truly unique in personality and talent I sometimes think his unusual style and manner belied his EXCEPTIONAL skill on the table 2 time World Champ? And could’ve /should’ve been more Trailblazer and a half And his 69 break against White in the semis will always be my fav clearance of all time Bizarre, unorthodox, shocking tracking at times, but everything he hit went in the pocket RIP HURRICANE 🌪

What killed the game was the saturation coverage. The BBC started putting every tournament on TV rather than just the WC as it was cheap to do. You may call the modern players robots, but they did go round punching officials or turning up drunk at press conferences or are you in favour of that ?

I really doubt snooker would be where it is as a sport if the stricter regulations you're critisizing would not have been intorduced. I cried with him ....awe you can see how much it meant to him. What a talent to be able to do that and in the final. Nerves of steel. To see everyone pleased for him was lovely. Amazing final. Alex will never be forgotten ☺ 20th January 2020
