I have owned this bike for 3 years and put 22,000 miles on it! It is a great bike and ready for a new owner! This is a ride video along with my tribute to this great bike!

I've had about a dozen Silverwings over the years. The last one I sold was a GL650I that I bought with 11,000 miles and sold it with 106,000 miles on the clock. IMHO it's the best bike Honda ever made. I'd still be riding it but for the parts scarcity. I do a lot of long road trips and the last thing I need is to have a unique part fail in No Hope ND. It would cost more than the bike is worth to retrieve it. In the 96,000 miles that I put on the bike I never had a clutch problem of any kind. I did have to replace 2 cam chains though. I've switched to the closest thing I could find to the Silverwing. Moto Guzzi. Transverse V twin, shaft drive, 5 speed transmission, and detachable bags. One word of advise.considering the mileage on your bike, I'd look very seriously at a new cam chain. They're not available from Honda, but you can get them aftermarket.

You are going to miss this bike. I absolutely loved mine. Unfortunately, my health does not allow me to ride anymore. One of the best mid-range tourers ever made in my opinion. I kept mine even when I bought more bikes. My wife and I toured on mine too. Went around Lake Michigan, etc... Great video. Brings back memories.

In Indianapolis dryer cycle sales is practically the first Honda dealership . I went to a bike auction there probably more than 20 years ago and bought a stock original 78 CX500 that was the first year they made them and the only body style . I was under the impression they did not sell 650 in the United States . Anyway I didn't know a single thing about the cx. I just like the looks of the bike . It didn't run probably not for years and I paid $250 . I replaced the clutch , brakes , rear tire , handlebars , and did a bunch of custom paint . It got stolen , and about a year later I got a call from the police saying they located my bike where it was abandend . It cost me $160 to get it out of an impound yard . It looks like perfect condition the but the motor was locked up . Now it just sits with the 10 other bikes I own . Now at 68 years old I'm actually afraid to ride because the traffic is so bad where I live .

The RPM gauge does not work. Clutch is tested by putting it in top gear, go slow (20 mph) and roll on the throttle hard. If it slips, it is time to replace it, if it does not slip, the ride it the way it is meant to be ridden.

Curious what reasonable Interstate cruise speed for 500 mile cruise back in forth from West Virginia to Va. Beach vacation cottage 3/4 times year- Roughly fuel milage? Old retired guy here likeolderbikes & Not in rush mainly ride secondary roads but have to interstate some- Honda XR 650L great bike for mountains local short trips but needing more comfortable road bike - Thanks for video!
@sixfive0cycle2 жыл бұрын
This 650 did well holding 70 on highway, it would go more but it was stretching it. It did much better around 60mph. Commuting I got around 48mpg, some trips I could get 50-52 depending on speed. As a single person touring bike it did well.

Did you put the mirrors on the handlebars, or did it come like that?
@sixfive0cycle Жыл бұрын
Factory mirrors are mounted on the fairing. They seemed to shake, I didn't like them. The mirrors on the handlebars are from a Maxim I had. I loved them on the Maxim so I put them on this!

I feel that there is more going on in this comment than just motorcycles! Let me address that as best I can: I have been married to the same woman for 34 years and it will be a lifetime more, she is not getting "traded in". Ever!! There are many amazing motorcycles in the world and it would be a shame to not experience them! It seems like I trade out bikes every 3.years or so. I don't consider it a bad thing, I like experiencing new bikes. They are material things and provide me with a new riding experience. I have loved every bike I have owned but they pale in comparison to the amazing woman I married!

@@sixfive0cycle I have a pony bike best in class 1985 Honda Rebel... but I also have a 1982 Hondamatic CM450 which is the cousin of your bike, and it's a fugly reliable excellent work horse bike I would never trade. Because both were getting long in the tooth... and I had money burning a hole in my pocket.... I recently bought a much prettier Honda 07 Shadow Spirit 750... a gorgeous bike that is basically a rolling piece of silverware you have to polish and clean all the frigging time. A show horse. Now I have 3 bikes and I'm like well.. that was a mistake. If I had to get rid of any one three, it would be the one I just bought... the pretty new bike that requires a lot of attention.

Have to love when someone thinks they know more about a bike than the owner does. Beautiful motorcycle. Really wish someone made this today. So much more soul than the Rebel, Bolt, or Vulcan or even the closest HD, the Street. Have to think these would probably sell better today than they did in 9182.
