Lauded as a royal mismatch during the week by many sportswriters, this game between longtime division rivals instead turns into a class tug of war.

The Dallas Cowboys defense gave up multiple huge yardage pass plays in this game, just one week after the Raiders torched them for 300 yards passing. Clearly, Roger Staubach in the 1970s had much better Cowboy defenses to work with than Danny White did in the 1980s. Of course Roger Staubach was an elite NFL quarterback and was definitely better than Danny White. Still, Danny White himself would have been a Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Cowboys in the early 1980s --- if the once overpowering Dallas defense had not slipped so badly in the years immediately following the retirement of Roger Staubach at the end of the 1979 season.

Parcells almost blew his head coaching opportunity in his first year by going 3-12-1. Picked Scott Brunner over Simms as the starter at QB then when he tried to replace Brunner six games in, Simms broke his thumb. Fact that Rutledge was in here shows Parcells realized he'd made a mistake. As it was George Young was enamored with Howard Schnellenberger after the season following his national championship at Miami and thought of replacing Parcells, which chilled the relationship he had with Young the rest of his time with the Giants. For whatever reason, Young didn't follow through with firing Parcells, Simms was named the starter from Day 1 in 1984, and the rest was history.
