I used to have the book. I have never stopped loving the original Banana Republic. What a fun place to shop. Half of my wardrobe in the 80s was from BR, and I still have my safari jacket, pith helmet, high boots. Yes, the music is perfect too. Thanks so much for posting!

I have this book, too. There is a newer one by Mel and Patricia Ziegler- Wild Company: The Untold Story of Banana Republic, 2012. It's a great read.

Agreed. The original stores were awesome! I still have some of the clothing and surplus stuff I purchased from the old Banana Republic, and I have a bunch of catalogs as well. After the Gap Inc. abandoned the founder's concept, it became nothing more than a khaki colored Gap.

Are you kidding me? The entire store, it's theme of "safari in Africa" is RIFE with politically incorrect ideas that the Left would absolutely SAVAGE. PETA, Greenpeace, the WWF and other eco-terrorists would literally fire-bomb the stores and cancel them for good measure. It's a totally different world, thanks to one Karl Marx...
