At 4:25, the oil pump drive gear. We had one that was run really hard by kids and when we took it apart the oil pump drive gear was smooth, no teeth. I have no idea how that engine didn't die from lack of oil, maybe the chain dragging on it was enough to keep some oil flowing. The cam chain and sprockets were shot, it was skipping teeth which is why we took it apart. The cam chain drive sprocket on the crank is press-fit, it was pretty easy to pull off and hammer a new one on.

I was a bit daunted about missing something with my top end re build. Thanks for a massive help with this video. Can you do a short video on how you wired it up for a bench run please. Thanks very much from the UK

I love these little Honda engines. They are built like a swiss watch. But my favourite are the 90cc ones since they have a bit more oomph :-)

This video left me with more questions. 1. Why does the front valve cover gasket stick up so high above the case? Poor quality kit? 2. Are the other gaskets crappy too? 3. Are there higher quality kits out there better than 2Fast? 4. How did you tension the cam chain? 5. How did you set the valves? 6. Is there a break-in process? 7. What's the compression guage show now on a fresh top end? 8. What's the leak down test show now? 9. Does the motor need to be re-timed? 10. Where would I find these answers?

Great videos very informative you helped me do my first ever top end rebuild watching your videos. But I have a question, the cylinder head gets very hot I don’t know if this is normal I have a 70cc kickstart non cooling I haven’t done a proper piston breakin because I’m afraid the cylinder might crack from the heat. I see small amounts of white smoke coming from the cylinder covers. The rings I got did not have any marking so I just guessed on installing, I did offset all 5 gaps

Where can I buy the rubber seals as the kit I bought on Ebay didn't come with one?
question for u......I have a 1971 z50 engine (short rod) that my buddy purchased a china 70cc top end kit just like this kit in your video but he has the short rod, can I just purchase an early 69-81 47mm 70cc piston to use this top end kit he purchased? or do you know what piston to use? the piston in the kit has to short of a popup it has the shorter pin to top of piston height
@VintageHondaMinis3 жыл бұрын
There is no piston that you can just swap into that kit. You need to buy the piston for the short rod and the matching dome cylinder head. I know you can find one on 2fastMoto website it's called the old dome cylinder head and piston kit or something along those lines.
@anthonyiuzzolino15543 жыл бұрын
thanks for the fast reply but I went on 2 fast moto website and I dont see any heads at all for sale, do you know of another source for the proper early large dome head?

Be careful with the step where he inserted the ring inside the cylinder prior to installing it on the piston. I tried this and the ring instantly broke, costing me a whole new set of rings and the time for order/delivery. Not sure that step is needed anyway.
@VintageHondaMinis2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear ring broke. That is checking ring end gap. Don't skip that step

Loosening that bolt for the cam chain doesn’t loosen it at all, you missed 2 other steps

I went all the way and loosened it up, just didn't film it. There are a few tensioner setups. Just giving the viewers the general info...
