Like a time machine. Bob Sledge was my sister's grade school and high school classmate, his son is playing for Nebraska now. John McCormick went to my high school, married the girl down the street from me. Carpenter's son just committed to Nebraska last week. And Clete Blakeman refereed the Super Bowl a few years ago. I got to meet Ken Clark years ago at Donohue's in South Omaha--super nice guy. He's passed since, but his son is coming to Lincoln to play. Nell Smith's son is going to play for Nebraska, too.

CBS still uses this theme music for college football to this very day.

@biggs949597 s Well you're wrong. They are using it, as the LSU-Mississippi State game is underway.

Great to see #40 Jon Kelley in there. Jon had incredible talent, but never got to play much. He did have a like 65 yard touchdown run in one game. Jon broke Irving Fryar's All-Time Team record in the Athletic Index in Winter Conditioning of 85. I always thought that Keith Jones should have Redshirted in 1985, and Kelley would have been a great number 3 behind Doug DuBose and Paul Miles, with a chance to blossom into a Star back. He was bigger and faster than either DuBose or Miles, and that's saying something because both DuBose and Miles were sprinters. Jones definitely could have benefited from the Redshirt year. He never really blossomed as a Running Back until Mid-Way through his Senior season.

46:25 impressive 28-yard TD run over the left side by Ken Clark. 1:32:53 long TD by Keith Jones off of the draw play.

Ken Clark just tossed the defender out of the way like a paper weight! That was a Mike Rozier type forearm shiver there. This might have been the last game Clark played in that season as he sprained his knee just as he was really coming on strong.

Lo, Ken Clark almost broke it on two consecutive carries there on the Huskers 3rd possession. Ken was so fluid of movement. So explosive. Had such great balance. Hard to knock off his feet in the open field. One of the more forgotten of the great Husker runners of the past. Sadly, Ken passed away 10 years ago in 2013 from a massive heart attack.

Lo, I spoke too soon! Ken with the touchdown run on his next carry, just one play later. I remember this run, but I thought that it was much later in the game. Not still in the first quarter. Look at him run over that guy! Gave him that Rozier like forearm, then bulled another Cow Poke into the endzone! This drive showed how good he was going to be for us. Alas, Ken missed the last 3 or 4 games I think of the 1987 season his Sophomore year with a knee injury. I believe that Ken, Tyreese Knox and Bryan Carpenter were all part of the same recruiting class in 1985. So were Steve Taylor and Richard Bell and I believe Morgan Gregory.

It’s amazing how Nebraska and Oklahoma kept the rest of the Big 8 at at arms length

In '84, '87, and '88, Oklahoma St. went a combined 30-6 and won its bowl game each year. All six losses were to Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Keith Jones all 5'9" 180 pounds of him Bulldozing over the defensive back and driving him into the endzone off the pitch play, much like Mike Rozier had done in Lincoln against the Cowboys back in '82. That was one of the most physical runs I ever saw. Mike was hit at about the 4 head on and barreled over their All-Conference Safety driving him 5 yards deep in the endzone. Wish I could find footage of the run. Keith much smaller than Mike was. Jones must have seen that run when he was in High-School in Omaha and been inspired.

This was two days before the stock market crashed. In fact, I saw a clip saying "Monday, October 19th", known as "Black Monday".

Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders? And OSU still couldn't score? And they said The Big 8 was a weak conference? Nebraska must have been a heck of a team!

@@JasonColegrove-n3u Super Bowl XXVI. Bills vs. Redskins. Thurman Thomas couldn't find his helmet, so he missed the first couple of plays and technically was therefore not the starter because of this gaffe.

Wasted talent, Pat Jones was an okay coach, but it was criminal how much these teams underachieved with the talent they had.
