I Love these old Supras. What got me into them was my brothers Supra. Im from Latvia, and there at the time we had maybe 10 of them, my bro had a 1991 turbo, 5 speed. i had very bad schooldays, i was bullied etc. that car was my happy place. plus it was modified, bigger injectors, ported head, full 3'' exhaust. it was a beast for Latvian roads. There was nothing like it.

i remember for about 15y ago. i drove t 89 mk3 targa turbo aut. for the first time, used from the dealer and looking hot. the mk3 trip impressed me so deeply. i was totally blown away. what was it that blew me away? everything! the mk3 exercise a special thing very few cars are able to copy. a multitude of excellence that sum up to be utterly fantastic...

Your summary is quite correct, I have an 89 turbo with the hardtop roof....manual and yes it's most definitely a gt, my son and I drove it home after purchase.......16 hr road trip from Adelaide to Sydney Australia, the car was in it's element, this is exactly what the car is made for, it just ate up the km's hour after hour in comfort.

I still drive a 1988 supra turbo 5 speed. The best thing ever was a blown head gasket and finding a great mechanic in 2003. Milled the heads resurfaced the values. new racing head gasket, arp racing bolts and on and on (if you want a list let me know). One point in the video I wanted to comment on was the suspension. Even though we changed the springs and lowered the front (I believe it was 19mm) upsized the sway bars and added a strut tower bar, we kept the TEMS shocks (new ones) and the suspension was pleasant when it was on std even for commuting, On sport it was a bit-tight which turned into tight when conditions kicked in the 3rd level on firmness. Tweaking in all the wheels, tires and all the new suspension parts gave it manageable oversteer so you could really corner it on rails or when needed, a little slide, which is very controllable. I agree, great car.

About 20 years ago My fast driving older sister had one of these a 1990 model and she put quite a bit of money into it's suspension and powertrain. It was pretty damn fast as far as those gen 3 supra go and she used to love hauling ass scary fast on the 2 lane blacktop highways in East Texas. She's still the same crazy speed demon but now she does it in her C7 Corvette. Gotta love her.....

I bought my '88 Turbo 5spd steel roof in 1990 and had it for 10 years until 2000. Sold it with 156k miles on it, was still on the original clutch, original alternator, and so on, and no not all hwy miles. Throw out bearing was making noise, but clutch not yet slipping! Loved that car, so comfortable, especially with the cloth seats that hold up better than the leather ones... I really really miss that car, would love to have another with a 1JZ or 2JZ turbo swap for more power... Oh I can dream! Old Toyota quality is amazing, since the Supra been driving the same old 99 Camry for 22 years because it's also so reliable 340k miles on it and never any major problems. Just change the oil when it starts turning brownish...

I might be getting an na 88 supra for my first car. It's got 4k worth of work done mechanically. Has an aftermarket radiator, an exhaust, aftermarket sway bars, new gas tank, some new wiring, momo jet steering wheel, and a carbon fiber shift knob. That's all I know of right now. It's been sitting since 07. The owner was a high school kid who took a grinder to the body. Moved to Texas after graduating college in PA. Decided to have a local shop sell it and they made sure its inspectable and safe. The only issue from my knowledge is the body. Gonna see if I can get it for $800

Make sure the head bolts are properly torqued down or you're going to be replacing the head gasket!! ARP bolts at 90ft pounds

@@connorrankin3573 I highly fucking recommend this. When i bought my supra (7mge). The guy said he replaced the head gaskets. Driving it once month later my head gaskets blew out. So the guy didnt do it properly.

I am going to agree with you, if you find one, go for naturally aspirated, and tune it for a long tour... this is not a race car, and you can do the drag strip cheaper nowadays.... the 7MGTE should be reserved for collectors and museums...

In saying that the MK3 Supra should be a GT car, I think it should also have an automatic transmission as standard. The point of a GT car is to drive fast over long distances without being stressed, and I think a car with an automatic transmission will do that job better than one with a manual transmission.

It doesn't want to be a GT. It is a GT. Sounds like the solid roof is the way to go and don't stiffen up the suspension. Some cars handle better with a softer suspension.

Change the head gasket for a metallic one and re-torque the bolts... other than that they are pretty reliable.

ma70. a70 is the generic chassis code. The only difference between a ma70, ga70, jza70 is whether it has an m- g- or jz-series engine.

@@zubirhusein Yeah but many have been exported as grey imports to countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Russia and even the USA. The 7m mk3 are generally the least sorted out due to the headgasket issues.

ah just saw the engine bay, engine swap? I used to work with one of the high up in toyota here in the UK. i remember him saying that it was the most extream bore out they had ever done to get the old 2lte engine upto 3 ltrs. something about removing the piston linings entirely. i def blew the bottom end in the first one and the top ends were rattling in my turbo. all that said include my r33 gtst i think the supra turbo was my favarate car that ive ever driven. i paid £2000 for mine in then mint condition, i cant believe how expensive they are now.

It was a turbo car from the factory, as I recall--I didn't have this car for long--but the guy before me had rebuilt the engine. The reason for the non turbo front end, the guy I got it from had this big crazy fiberglass front end on it that didn't agree with my steep driveway so I found this one at a junkyard, had it sprayed, and threw it on there. Not sure where the non turbo wing came from. Good eye.

@@malachilatroy lol no, accelerating upto the speed limit enthusiastically. RX7s are great cars and i think the reliability is probably similar. the RX7 will be lighter and more sporty but youd feel like a king in the supra

Na chassis's we'rent as good as turbo chassis's which this obviously wasn't a turbo chassis's car with tems or all the other bells and whistles. Not to mention all the pre 89 year cars werent as solid as 89-93. A solid 89+ turbo chassis mk3 supra with the turbo diff and tems suspension or even aftermarket suspension handles well and definitely is a proper gt car. There's no need for the n/a cars. If you want a proper supra experience why got with the lesser than years and then not as capable engine. Be the same thing as buying one with the Japanese 1ggte engine

@@sparseseekers5851 its super reliable it has never let me down (I own mine since 21 years ^^. its not as efficient as a prius of course but alot of fun and daily drivability is not bad because the clutch is light, it has AC(option), power steering and ABS as well as the power you need

I have 3 Toyota Supras [ Yes, three! ]and I'm getting a bit too hold to keep hanging on to these precious gems, much like losing those hot babes you courted in your 20's I "hate" letting go of these babes, just as I hated to let go of those former babes of mine [her idea or mine?] :( #1. The "perfect body," remember? Oh, oops, my '88 Supra of course, and no joke with non-scratchles and no rust either on this phenomenal body. That is about it for this beauty, though--see, no motor. The color: Red, maybe, mixed with a bit of crimson A-10 rated body. OO! #2. I have two-84-Supras. One runs solid but could use a tuneup. Looks are at a 8.5 rating out of 10. Maybe closer to a 9? A solid Grey color. #3. The other '84 is a Black Supra, she could use some serious maintenance but that body--if you do not look too close--looks to have solid black paint overall. [I have photos of all 3.
