Good to see them still floating around. I had a 92 1GGT1 model but it was like the limited with the digital dash, tems etc it was also the wide body version. Brought it from the Hamilton auctions for 3.5k in the early 2000's.

I have a ma70 7mgte auto. For its age it drives well and has power to burn. Engine was rebuilt totally stock with all the good stuff to make it reliable. Latest upgrade is a set of coil overs from XYZ . The TEMS was a bit soft after 34 years. It definitely drives better now and not too rough over the speed bumps.

Great Comparison - Fair to say the 2 litre can be dissapointing. I owned XZ9885 in New Zealand for 7 years, a 1G-GTE Auto with the targa roof - used it as a daily car. Drove it up from Christchurch to Auckland when I got it, and several times Auckland to Tauranga and back. It did not really have enough torque low down, which was frustating round town. On the open road it was a great GT, and left in 2nd gear very responsive over 5K revs so lots of fun on the twistys. I now have a UK new 7M-GE, 3 litre non turbo in manual. Much better round town, as much power as the 1G-GTE and much more low down torque. Keep up the good work.

While they are more gt than sports cars, a nice jz swap or a built 7m will make them just as nasty as a lot of these mk4s on the streets. Never seen the 1gs built for power at all though.

Why do you keep "changing gears" with the automatic transmission? Just put it on D and use the gas pedal. The car will shift to lower gear if you hit the gas pedal hard enough. The "2" and "1" positions are for engine braking, they shouldn't be needed when accelerating.
@KiwiCarLife
@KiwiCarLife 3 жыл бұрын
I'm used to manual cars. The auto in these downshifts much too slowly, and tries to shift into 1st all the time if you floor it. If you just want to squeeze the power on in 2nd, putting it in 2 is the best option.
@ACommenterOnYouTube
@ACommenterOnYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
Some people want to manually shift it when they are ready to shift it, NOT when the ecu thinks its time based on thottle. My 98 Supra is auto as well, i use D most of the time because its shift points are very well for normal driving but when i want some real power, i manually shift from 1 to 2 then to 3rd which is D. Otherwise in D when i hit the gas pedal it does shift down accordingly and the power builds. Its a very well designed shift points
@ACommenterOnYouTube
@ACommenterOnYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
And not to mention the 1st and 2nd gear are NOT for engine breaking. You can use it for that but thats not what it was meant for. 1st gear is Low for hills, to keep the engine in 1st gear while climbing. The last thing you want is the computer going into 2nd gear while trying to climb then your now lugging the engine in a higher gear at low rpm.
@Smuutti
@Smuutti 3 жыл бұрын
@@ACommenterOnKZbin well I have a '90 A70 with a 7M-GTE and automatic transmission, could show you pages from the original user's manual if you want to debate about the engine braking. In my opinion it is always safer to keep it on D and hit the gas pedal when you want "real power" because the ECU is keeping an eye on various things and shifts are optimized to keep good acceleration and avoid damage. If it changes poorly then it could be out of adjustment. My A/T changes according to speed, rpm and accelerator pedal position specified in the factory repair manual. The car had a faulty transmission a few years ago, slipping in heavy acceleration, but it has been replaced.

@@Smuutti i trust what you say BUT i have been driving since the 90's and NEVER EVER heard or seen anyone in an automatic down shifting to 2 or 1 to slow the car down. Thats what brakes are for. NOW with that said, in a manual, which i also have, some DO down shift gears to slow the car down instead of using brakes but to ME that wears down the clutch so most use the brakes because brake pads are cheaper than a new clutch.

@@richardprice7763 Not sure if you are still looking, but basically the same at about 200hp depending on engine condition and BPU mods. However the toruqe is way down on the 2.0 litre and there is turbo lag, so you have to push it past 5K to get the best out of it. The N/A just pulls from 3K and up.

@Joker-ig8im Жыл бұрын
@@slgproductions7753 Your right. Looking up the stats it looks like it had the 7MGT motor. I honestly didn't have the car very long. It was given to me back in the mid 90's by my mother's boyfriend that she had been dating for about a year who I had just met because they lived in a different city. Fate would have it they stayed together until just a couple years ago when he passed. Anyway I didn't know much about it because it had like 180,000 miles on it and every panel had Ohio salt rust on it. The motor blew after 5 months and I scrapped it. I'm sure it was nice back in the day new. My last car was a White 1994 Celica Gt 2.2 liter 5 speed, the one with the round headlights. I had it for 10 years and put 270,000 miles on it. I love that car.

The digital dashboard is what i don’t like about my 2012 Prius. ( yes totally different car) but in 2012 you would think that cars Already would have full color led dashboard lights. Specially if it is all digital. And most of the cars had a full color dashboard. But not the 2012 prius. I do like that it’s digital.. but it still got that 80s 90s green dated color.. it looks cheap.. it’s not modern . It’s not bright. If it was the 80s and 90s oh yes futuristic! But after 2010 expecting something more from a car. The Prius wants to be futuristic modern.. a pioneer. But that dashboard nope not good.
